PleX playback error: an error occurred while attempting to play this video

I also updated to the last version of Pi recently in my mibox s, but if I remember correctly, I think the issue started after updating my PleX apps also. Was earlier this week and have been trying installing and uninstalling several things in the last few days in order to pinpoint the issue, so I might be remembering wrong.

Given this, perhaps the issue is not the same as the one the users of the Nvidia shield are having in the other topic.

Man you’re pretty bitter for someone trying to help you. Sorry I can’t help you but mine is working fine on 9.0 with the new video player, back dated one or maybe 2 versions and no problems except for live TV now has pixelated picture randomly which is been a known issue. Gl

Here is the version I’m using. I think I uploaded the right one( I have multiple Android devices).

You are right, it was not the best attitude on my side. Thanks for trying to help, and hope you didn’t get too offended.

Regarding the PleX client version you shared, I think that one is far older than the one I’m using and not for armv7. Still I will try with the same revision for armv7 and see if there is any luck. I only tried the previous client version (7.30) as that was the one that worked OK for me prior to updating the server.

It’s all good, yeah versions fly for me. I think this one was a couple back.

Ah well, I was on MiBox S 9.0 Pie before and it was running fine (the pie version which I updated earlier this year, probably during February?)
I only got myself into trouble with PLEX right after I updated the latest patched version of Pie on my MiBox S like 2 days ago.
Some of my other streaming app for my telco doesn’t work either, no luck even after trying with multiple sideloaded versions.
Ah well… at least now I can still use Plex with the older player (changed in client setting)

I’m having the same issue on my MiBox S. As soon as I’ve updated to the ‘patched’/‘stable’ march android update, all hell broke loose. Nothing loads/works. Whilst it did fix the chromecast bug, it f***ed up plex. I think it might be related to the update fixing an old Issue with H264 codec. It was mentioned in the update log. Weird though how it messes up only the new player.

Same for me too.
don’t update your Xiaomi mi box S on 9.0.

only work if i disable new player (with same poor old issue of H.264 ghosting)

it just works for few videos with the new player (old H.264 ghosting issue from xiaomi fixed).

Plex Devs, please help us.

Hi there same issue.

Hopefully will be resolved soon though most of my stuff runs OK after taking the advice here and using the old player.

Can we get an update here when something happens?

Thanks

I updated my Xiaomi Mi S today to 9.0 unaware of this bug.

And I can’t find how to revert to the “old player”. Can’t find anything in the Plex app settings or the Android TV system settings. Can somebody tell me exactly how to revert to the “old player”?!

Go into the Plex app options (Click your user thingy on top left) and scroll down until you see options for Advanced. You want to scroll over to the right, and look for enable new video player and switch it to off. It is not shown on the screen so that’s probably why you can’t see it without scrolling.

It’s in between Share Crash reports and View Privacy Policy.

Hope it helps.

It helped for me. Thanks

Thanks a lot.
Hope the player issue is gonna be fixed. Any official comment from the development team?

If the automatic refresh change is activated in Mi Box S in Android 9, the player stays charging forever. If while the screen is black, it changes to automatic quality and then original quality, playback starts. Automatic refresh change is very important, and now it is broken.

No clue have only been googling and checking here. I disabled automatic app updates as I suspect that when ti gets fixed it will just be a an update to the plex app inside Android TV.

So will keep an eye out for that and then do some tests. If I hear of anything first place I will post on is here for you all

I think that there is a MUST for fixing it - Android 9 is JUST the start and we can NOT avoid it.
I have other TV Boxes that it works great on them using the NEW player - But they are not Android 9.0.
Please PLEX fix that ASAP so we will be able to go back to the new player.
Thank you for your wonderful work.

Honestly, truly, I can live with the old player as long as it works  But yeah let’s hope for something.

I’m having the same problem with the MiBox S. Problem started happening after I updated the system to Android 9. Disabling the new player on settings solved the problem but this needs to be addressed so we can use the new player which is obviously better but with the bugs mentioned.
