After updating Xiaomi Mi Box S to Android TV 9.0 Pie, the Plex application does not play the content if the automatic refresh is activated in the app. When trying to play it keeps charging forever.
If the automatic refresh in settings is disabled, the content is played, but then there is judder.
The rest of the applications that support automatic refresh, work well.
Is it possible to check if it is a problem in the application?

I am having the same issue with the 9.0 Pie on my MiBox S. Playback for movies seems to stall, and nothing in the Plex logs as to why. If I toggle playback from “Automatic” to “Original” or any of the other trans-code options, playback seems to start.
I have not tried toggling automatic refresh. It seems to stall independent of the new player or the old one.
Turning off the Automatic refresh setting in plex does seem to fix the issue for me, I dont see any judder. This seems to work irregardless of the auto-refresh settings on the Mibox itself.

I had the same issue on one of my setup (AVR via HDMI connection)
The Automatic refresh setting in plex off slove the problem. I had some issues with playback and 5.1 payback as well. No found a settings and it seems works for me.
Mi box S settings:
Audio/Digital audio format: manual and switch on all codecs
Dolby sounds: off (I don’t know what is this settings)
Plex settings:
Advanved/passthrough: optical (note i use hdmi!)
Advanced/optical encodings: AC3 and DTS checked.
Refresg rate switch: off

I had also the same behaviour. After open it and configure some settings I was able to play some titles in the Plex APP in my Xiaomi Box S. Later the notification with Android 9 was there and did the upgrade… After that I couldn´t play anything.
I´ll try your settings in my Box to see what happens…
By the way, are you able to play DTS-HD or True-HD in passthrough in your AVR?
On my side, same problem.
But with Plex extension for Kodi, everything is ok, even automatic refresh rate (switch to 24p when needed).

That’s right, I am using Kodi, until the problem with the AFR in the Plex app is fixed. I like the app because the interface is faster and voice search.

Same here, have two Mi BOX S at house, and one at my brother’s house, plex does not play content when refresh rate is set to on in settings. Endless spinning circle appears instead of movie.

On Mi BOX S, in Plex setting try to use the old video player, it seems working for me. (I have tested it with one video who doesn’t worked anymore since the update, maybe it will not work on all videos)
Advanced/Enable new video player: off

Le problème semble venir de la Mi Box S avec le dernier firmware, celui-ci contenant de nombreux bug.
Plex ne semble pas être en cause. De mon côté, pour le moment plus de soucis en désactivant le lecteur vidéo intégré de Plex.

J’ai du mal à le croire car j’utilise aussi DS VIDEO sur la même MI Box et TOUT fonctionne à MERVEILLE , en DTS ES et autres formats.
A partir du moment où il n’y a QUE PLEX qui ne fonctionne pas correctement, je pense que c’est PLEX à remettre en question. Bah oui, si les autres arrivent à faire une belle application qui fonctionne très bien, PLEX devrait aussi y arriver
Donc je réitère ma demande à savoir : pourquoi PLEX ne bouge pas !!! LE plus frustrant est que je suis sur la version FULL PAYANTE… plus on paie, et moins cela fonctionne !!! 0 euros pour DS VIDEO !!!

Hi, I made a restore to factory settings and reinstalled everything but I am still having the problem with the plex app. I tried to change the settings as suggested but even with the automatic refresh off and using the old player, the video playback stops continuesly. Same problem with the Kodi Plex App.
With another android tv box (worse than de Mi Box S), connected to the same TV, same Plex Server, same Network, same settings in Plex, … the video playback works great.
I tested connection speed on the Mi Box S and it is great so it is not a problem of the network, neither of the plex Server as it works great with the other android TV box. I also have no problems with other streaming apps on Mi box S, like Netflix, HBO, Amazon, … all of them working fine.
It seems a specific problem of the Plex App with Mi box S. Does anyone have the same problem and found a solution?
Is Plex or Xiaomi still working on the problem?
Easy solution : use Kodi + official Plex addon, all is working fine this way.
