I’m encountering an issue for about 2-3 weeks. Every time I watch a Movie, at the end of the movie (very nearly to the credits) Plex will ALWAYS give me an error that says “Conversion failed. The Transcoder exited due to an error”. The error is misleading because I’ve made sure that all my movies are Direct Playing onto the TV and they’re not transcoding at all. The issue is very annoying because you miss a few minutes at the ending of all movies. The issue never happens outside the ending of all movies. It never happens in the middle or at the beginning. Only the end!
This issue never happened 2-3 weeks ago. It’s a very new issue and nothing changed on my end, except of course the Plex Media Server version that constantly gets updated. It’s worth mentioning that the same movies were working fine and Direct Playing just fine on my TV a couple of weeks ago.
I’m running the Plex Media server on a synology 920+ device. I’ve made sure that the Plex server is up to date at the time of writing in this topic.
I’ve tested with 3 different TVs (a Samsung 2019 TV (RU7172 model), a Samsung 2020 TV (TU7172 model) and an LG B1 (B13LA model) and all of them have the latest Plex Client at the time of writing this. All my movies are Direct Playing there no Transcoding or Direct Streaming of any sort is happening.
Does this happen to anyone else? Is there any way the Plex team can acknowledge this bug please?
I am seeing the following Error logs in the Console:
Aug 20, 2023 22:36:23.003 [140223141595960] Error — [TranscodeOutputStream] Session appears to have died from under us
Aug 20, 2023 22:36:29.840 [140223008934712] Error — [Req#2ca1a] Unable to find client profile for device; platform=Tizen, platformVersion=5, device=19_MUSEL_UHD_BASIC, model=UE55RU7172UXXH
Aug 20, 2023 22:36:30.051 [140223008934712] Error — [Req#2ca38] Unable to find client profile for device; platform=Tizen, platformVersion=5, device=19_MUSEL_UHD_BASIC, model=UE55RU7172UXXH
Also it really only happens during the ending of movies. It’s somehow related to the credits. I get the feeling that Plex is doing something to try and detect when credits are supposed to happen in a movie and it’s right there and then that this error pops up.
Spot on observation!
Yeah, it’s totally related to subtitles because I just tested without subtitle and the issue is no longer happening.
Still, you should know that I am just using plain simple English SRT subtitle.
You must understand, I have been using Plex for 2 years now and the movies with SRT subtitle that have always worked before!
This is a very recent problem/bug and it somehow surfaced in the recent weeks or in the past month.
And so, I must argue that this must be some sort of bug within Plex. I would very much appreciate an honest answer or maybe even a fix and I hope Plex team won’t just blame my subtitles or my movies because I can assure you they have always worked before on the very same TV!
Ok. You should also know that be it with subtitles or without subtitles, the movies are direct playing and not transcoding.
So this bug is really misleading in its description because it’s saying that “The Transcoder exited due to an error”.
Anyway, when will we know for sure when the fix will be delivered?
I’ve been having the same issue and haven’t been able to watch anything for months now. When I try to play any movie media, I immediately receive the playback error - have tried a few things I’ve read online but nothing is working. Can someone help?
While we do get the same error message, you should know it’s a generic message and it can be caused by various reasons. I suggest you open your own topic and post your own logs in there.
I receive that error when the movie is about to end. On the other hand, you seem to receive the error right when your movies start. So it’s clearly a different issue which is worth its own topic.
I’ve been having the same error and after reading that I’m not the only one with this problem, I’ve rolled back my version of the media server to an earlier one. Things are back to normal again now.
