Plex: Playback in endless loop breaks off

Dear Plex Team

We have the following setup at one of our customers:

  • Four new Samsung TV monitors where the latest Plex app is installed via Samsung Smart Hub (App Store).
  • A Windows 10 based Plex Media Server (Version 4.47.3) with i5-72600U 2,2GHz CPU, 16 GB Memory and SSD Disk

Films are to be played on these four TV monitors in an endless loop in the waiting room. These are a total of 9 MP4 videos which together are only 1.6 GB in size.

After a certain time, the Samsung TVs stop playing the films in Plex. We don’t know what the reason for this is and can’t see from the log files whether and why playback was interrupted.

although according to the plex dashboard not a single stream is active, the four samsung tvs seem to try to fetch data from the plex server:

Can you please help me here?

It appears that you are using Plex in a situation for which it was no designed.
Plex is stopping playback intentionally after a certain time without user input.

For your particular use case, you might be happier with a different solution. I recommend to seek for “digital signage” solutions.

hi otto
thanks for your feedback. it seems to be a user error of the client. they played the movies in random under the library. after plex played all the movies once, it stopped.

that means they had NOT used the repeat function.
the solution seems to be: merge all the films into a single film/file. Press play and use the repeat function.

You can try to put all videos into a playlist and then tell them to play the playlist instead.

is the playlist then available to all plex users & friends i have when i give them access to the library?
if yes, your suggestion is even better

Normally, playlists are only for you.
You can however share a playlist, similarly how you can share single items (instead of a whole library).
