plex server Version 1.23.0.4497 ( running on a dedicated windows 10 machine on my network)
Regardless of the show or the quality of the recording, plex client will freeze, spin and then go black. A lot of times i have to shut the show and or the client down and restart to get it going again.
Meanwhile, if i play the same files back using Plex on my LG TV OS they play back fine with no errors.
I have run into some files that freeze and converting them to a more suitable format fixes it.
This issue is now happenning everyday since the last plex update.
Plexweb runs in your browser and as such can Direct Play VERY little.
When watching on the Desktop, it’s best to use one of the Powerful, Dedicated Player Apps located at the ‘Apps and Devices’ link below at page bottom.
I recommend Plex for Windows - it looks and runs exactly like Plexweb, except for the fact that it will Direct Play most anything you throw at it while Plexweb will transcode most everything because your browser is a poor Plex Client.
The issue i have is that, for the past three years, same machines, no problem with playback in the browsers. A recent change either in plex, chrome or windows is degrading performance. I will try the dedicated app and get back to you
If you got Direct Play and problem free operation in your browser (Plexweb), that’s a miracle (Call Ripley), but it wouldn’t take much of a change in your media to shut that down.
Plex for Windows has nearly every codec built in and what you see may look like Plexweb, but it’s VERY different. I use Plexweb to maintain the server. I use PfW (Desktop) or PMP (Home Theater App - not mouse friendly) to watch stuff with.
A transcode means there’s something that needs fixing. My OCD will ONLY allow Direct Play…and I use Plexweb’s Dashboard to make sure everything playing is in Direct Play.
I installed PfW (Desktop) and it’s working. One other weird item, in Plex web, none of the link headings (such as recently added TV) were clickable (they are in Plex web). I tried plex web in several machines and different browsers and all the same problems. I believe the last few updates in plex are the issue.
