Server Version#: 1.25.5.5492
Player Version#: Playing web player locally via Chrome
I’ve been having an issue where whatever I’m watching will “freeze” when I’m watching it. To be clear, the playback in the web player pauses, shows the spinning circle like it’s trying to buffer but it never plays. Pressing the pause/play button does nothing either. I am forced to refresh the page and resume playback. This happens multiple times per TV episode normally. It happens in movies as well. It’s getting to the point where my wife is not using plex because she’s become so frustrated with how often it is happening.
I started taking note of the time when this happened and went into the logs to try to see if there’s an issue. The server logs show nothing at all happening. So I turned on verbose logging (wow does it log a lot with this enabled) and there’s still not anything that I see that points to an issue.
The files are playing via directplay, so it’s not a transcoder issue. Any thoughts?
FWIW, I haven’t always had this issue, and it seems to have gotten worse with the latest server update. My server is on ubuntu, and I’m using ubuntu on my HTPC to watch the videos.
I also noticed while looking at my logs, I get this error a lot, even on directplayed things. I don’t think this is the cause, but who knows
[Transcoder] [mp4 @ 0x7f2319cd0340] Application provided duration: -32 / timestamp: 54460840 is out of range for mov/mp4 format
Edit: I tried something. I forced some TV episodes to transcode instead of direct play. When transcoding, it didn’t freeze once over ~ 8 hours. Interesting.
I also tried Chrome vs firefox, I see the same behavior browser to browser.
I also tried disabling hardware accel vs software only and saw no difference.
