Plex playback issues on Hisense TV

Server Version#: 1.40.5.879
Player Version#: T.B.D.

A friend of mine, who has a Hisense 75U72KQ (2023) TV, is connected to my PMS. I’ve got 1Gb FTTH and she has a 200 Mbit VDSL connection. Bandwidth wise everything is more than adequate. I only allow Direct Play (for video) and all my content has an extra DD+ compatibility track, so my PMS doesn’t have to transcode the lossless audio to a supported format.

ISSUE #1
When she tries to play high bit rate content (i.e. 4K Blu-ray remuxes) it becomes an unwatchable slide show. We’ve tried switching the TV’s internet connection from LAN to Wi-Fi and vice versa, but to no avail. Is the TV just not powerful enough? If that’s the case, the people who’ve (professionally) reviewed it should quit their jobs and start folding paper straws at the factory.

I’ve tested the same content on my 7yo daughter’s TV (LG C9 from 2019) and it plays flawlessly. Our living room TV (LG G3 with Nvidia Shield Pro) does not have any issues with it either, but that was to be expected.

ISSUE #2
When selecting a subtitle (internal/external TXT), it enables all available subs and displays them on top of each other. Currently the only way to prevent this from happening is watching without subs.

She also has the latest Chomecast. That doesn’t suffer from the second issue, but also doesn’t like high bit rate content (as expected). I’ve got a spare FireTV Cube (3rd), but that doesn’t support HFR content and is still plagued with audio sync issues when directly connected to an AVR. So hopefully it are just two silly bugs in Plex which can be resolved, otherwise she needs to opt for a potent external media player.
