I have only tested this on the Roku Ultra:
There is a MAJOR issue with the new Plex app version dated April 5th.
ANY video on Plex with TrueHD audio is not working anymore now with the new Roku Plex app version.
Behavior:
With the ‘Direct Play’ setting set to ‘Auto’, I get the error “Playback has stopped due to multiple playback errors” and the video does NOT play.
If I then switch ‘Direct Play’ setting set to ‘Force’, Plex hangs and then hangs / crashes the Roku, forcing the entire Roku to restart (reboot) by itself!
I see the Roku Plex app update above coincides with an update to Play Store version of Plex TV (client) app…
I have not had a chance to test this with other clients, but believe this is impacting ALL Plex clients.
Thanks!
I have been trying to avoid upgrading the Shield version on my 2019 Shield TV Pro from, 8.x to 9.0.x given all the issues people have been experiencing (as noted in a separate thread that has been going since the Shield Experience 9.x / Android 11 upgrade in Jan).
TrueHD I believe is fixed. Yet another problem exists. Major stuttering, audio dropouts whether it be Dolby Atmos, TrueHD, AC-3, DTS-HA, DTS-X, hdr10 or Dolby Vision.
Thanks.
I have a PlexPass and decided to upgrade Plex Media Server (PMS) 1.26 Beta (after reading it fixes HW transcoding, if I read release notes ‘Fixes’ section correctly).
The good news is that with PMS 1.26.0.5715 Beta, my 4K 7.1 TrueHD clip is(the 2 I tested so far) are now playing fine, again, using the Plex app my Roku Ultra.
There is one 1080P TrueHD 7.1 clip that plays fine on Android’s PlexTV app (TV OS is Android), but it does not play on my Roku Ultra’s Plex app so far (I have yet to try setting DirectPlay to ‘Force’ for that one clip).
Hope this helps someone.
Important note - While I upgraded Plex Media Server (PMS) today from 1.23 to 1.26.0.5715 Beta, I am still on Shield Experience 8.x (I have not upgraded my Shield Experience to 9 (Android 11) yet (for the reasons stated).
Edit - I will see regarding the audio dropouts noted by member ‘terrorindeed’
I still have the problem direct playing from my ShieldTV. 99% of 4K things that encoded as 7.1/trueHD/Atmos all just doing. There is the odd older one that plays for whatever reason. If I change it to 5.1 AC3 stream in the same media it works no problem.
Since I updated to Shield 9.0.2 and Plex 1.26.0.5715 all TrueHD 7.1/Dolby Atmos files either won’t play at all or take a long time and ultimately transcode to Opus 7.1
Not sure what is to blame here, Shield or Plex but prior to the updates (9.0.2 was an auto update) it worked perfectly.
