Yes. TrueHD 7.1 Atmos has not been a problem for me. Although I can try and do some deeper testing.
If anything my only audio hiccup comes from my LG TV not supporting anything DTS, even over bitstream, but the Shield handles this nicely and converts this to PCM and I don’t even notice. Server side it still sees it as direct play of the DTS audio
What is the version of media player on your shield ?
Right now 9.4.0.33068 Beta for testing. But normally day-to-day I run 8.27.1 as this is the last version that worked for me without breaking the HDR10+ situation.
Server side it’s the latest beta. 1.27.0.5783 but it’s also been working on earlier versions.
I should add that if anything, for everything else that does play, so 95% of stuff, the latest client with the newer demuxer (from 9.2 beta or 9.3 stable I think?) works much better. Play/Pause/Skip/Rewind on the older versions is a bit flakey.
Tested this as well and you are right, this one does have working playback when testing with 9.4.0 beta. There are some minor difference in the mediainfo data, but also interestingly The Expanse is regular DD+ 5.1 but Halo is DD+ Atmos. Not sure if thats a factor or not?

Some further information here on the HDR10+ issue I and others in this thread seem to have.
I believe this may be related to an ExoPlayer issue introduced in 2.16.1 and this is why Plex client versions newer than 8.27.1 have a problem? Plex Android Client 8.28.0 introduced ExoPlayer 2.16.1 in that version where I start to see this break.
I have also been doing testing with ‘Just (Video) Player’ from the Google play store on the Shield which is a basic ExoPlayer video player that plays back files from USB.
Version 0.70 of this app, the latest version before ExoPlayer 2.16.1 was merged into their app, plays the HDR10+ media fine.
Upgrade to ‘Just (Video) Player’ to 0.76, which uses ExoPlayer 2.16.1 and the file will no longer play and throws an error, so similar behaviour to what we see with the Plex client
If its an ExoPlayer issue, this would perhaps explain why there is no obvious error in the Plex Client or Server logs?
@BigWheel Does this sound likely, based on the logs you got from me? Could it be this issue, or something similar, that has been reported on ExoPlayer issues? If so is there a way to pull the ExoPlayer exception from the Plex logs that we can throw into the GitHub issue to help add some weight behind getting it fixed there?
If it is ExoPlayer related, version 2.18 shipped today, which I guess we might see in a Plex Beta in a couple of weeks?
Not actually expecting the HDR10+ issue to be resolved, if it is related to the ExoPlayer issue I linked, as that fix is not included in this release.
Got my hopes pegged on some luck there will be a 2.18.1 in a few weeks that we might finally see in the Plex client sometime in August, that fixes my specific problem……

No change, still broken in 9.4.1
Same problem. Just started past week. I will be watching no problem. But should I try to rewind or try watching something different things freeze up or server no longer available… but I was just watching… lol. Using shield I sometimes have to reboot more than once to get things to work.
fwiw, the HDR10+ playback issue I am seeing here I’m even more certain is an ExoPlayer problem now, and does seem to be fixed in ExoPlayer current ‘dev-2’ branch.
The other Android/ExoPlayer app I was testing with resolved the problem by backporting just this one fix into their ExoPlayer 2.18 based build: Fix parsing H265 short term reference picture sets · google/ExoPlayer@d86bc10 (github.com)
Any way you could see about poking someone to backport this fix into the Android Plex client so it can be fixed for us Plex users as well? ![]()
@coop3r AFAIK We do use a customized version of exoplayer so not sure if it doing that would be simple but I will pass your info along.
I’m sure the fix will trickle down into the Plex client eventually, once it makes it into an official Exo build and then into the code here etc, but be really nice if it could be sooner as a target fix
Your help is appreciated!
Thanks for reporting the issue, we’ve resolved the problem you have mentioned, as well as another with HEVC getting stuck when playback starts.
It will be available in v9.6, you can sideload the build below to get access immediately:
FireTV devices: https://artifacts.plex.tv/android-experimental/9.6.0.33577-c348246b/PlexForAndroid-9.6.0.33577-c348246b-Armv7aAmazon.apk
I could kiss you @sixones
Will side load and test this out!
Edit: Yep, not a particularly in-depth test, but 9.6 seems to have fixed the issues I was having for sure. Hopefully the same goes for others here. Thanks again! ![]()
Is anyone else having issues downloading 9.6 from the links above? I’m receiving a 404 error & file not found.
I also get 404
Hope it will be available soon via normal update!
Hi @sixones I am having the same issue. I would like to try the beta version to sideload. But I couldn’t access the link. Can you please let us know when this new version with the fix available at Android store?
Thank you!
Here’s the build again, will be available on beta channel of Google Play next week;
Thanks for sharing links. I am able to download the build this time. Will sideload it shortly.
