Plex player on android 4.4.4 won't connect to server on same network and subnet

Server Version#: 1.22.3.4392
Player Version#: Plex for Android v4.4.0.369

I have this in-wall amplifier device that runs android 4.4.4, so I downloaded the plex player version linked above for android 4.4.0 (the next was too new for 4.5.0)

I installed this on my device, I payed the $4.99 to activate it so that I could use it to stream music from the server (the whole goal). It brought me to a login screen but anything I try to login with (really wasn’t sure if I should use my main plex account, or one of the managed accounts I created), it says that there was trouble communicating with myPlex.
Not sure if this is my server or the plex website.

If I skip signing in (I have “guest” enabled on my server) it brings me to a pretty much blank interface that says to select one of the libraries from the menu to view content. Of course there are no libraries in the menu at all.

I went into advanced and set a manual connection to my server but it didn’t seem to do anything.

I have internet connectivity and can ping between the two internal addresses, but it seems like it isn’t seeing the server or connected correctly.

Did I screw up and waste $5 on something that isn’t going to work? Any further advice?
Have seen this, https://support.plex.tv/articles/204604227-why-can-t-the-plex-app-find-or-connect-to-my-plex-media-server/, didn’t help in my scenario.

I checked and the android 4.4.4 system isn’t in my devices. I can’t add it apparently because I can’t login.

Is this player version just too old to work with the current server?
Thanks

Yeah likely, but we did not test a version that old with a current server. There should have been option to stay in trial mode on activation screen.

I would maybe try setting your servers secure connections to disabled.
