Plex Player Windows stuck checking for updates

Server Version#: 1.20.3.3437
Player Version#: 1.20.0.1406-f47a81b7

I have a strange problem. On ONE Windows 10 system the Plex player shows checking for updates all the time. Other computers are fine. Plex Web is fine. Just this one Windows 10 system. Restarting and uninstalling and reinstalling Plex (player) didn’t help. In other respects the Plex player works fine.

Any ideas?

Try Plex for Windows won't run

Well, this is interesting. It works the first time after the files are deleted. Then it goes back to the behavior I mentioned before. AND, the other Windows 10 systems are also doing the same thing now. But, Plex Web is fine.

I suspect a bug with the Plex Windows Desktop Player.

Try to manually download the latest player software version and install it after cleaning out the configuration folder.

Same. It works fine on the second launch (always fails to properly start on the first launch after clearing the configuration folder) and then on the third and following launches it is stuck checking for updates. All Windows 10 2004 systems.

When the most recent version is already installed, it should not be stuck at all.

I’ve got the most recent version installed on two Windows 10 desktops, and both get stuck.

Plex Web works fine.

How big is your screen resolution?
Does it start up correctly if you reduce it to fullHD (1920x1080 pixels)?

None of my screens are larger than 1920x1080.

I’ll just use plex.web when checking for updates.

I find that a client does this for me just after I have updated the server.

Then if I close that client down and restart it, it is fine.

It appears either the last update to Plex or PMS has resolved this.
