Plex Player - "Your connection to the server is not fast enough to stream this video."

Yes, since the day it became available. Everything involved end to end is as up-to-date as it can be.

@sixones I’m having this issue too. Today I downloaded the Beta in an attempt to see if it would resolve the problem. I’m running Shield 8 experience. According to my Google Wifi router, the Shield is connecting to the wifi network at 336Mbps. The Plex server is a wired Dell Poweredge server that never had any problems when I was using an XBOX as our media player. Is there a place I can share the logs with you?

Have you tried wiring the Shield?

I get this regularly on my AppleTV - I think this is more of a server issue (or at least some form of combination)…

I haven’t wired it because I can’t. That seems like a bad answer seeing as I know it has enough bandwidth and there was an XBOX in the same place that played Plex movies just fine over wifi about 2 weeks ago.

I experienced this problem once on my Shield TV.

In my case, the issue was suppressed by accessing a local SMB share which is mounted on my Shield. I simply browsed the share through RetroArch, but I presume any file manager would have the same effect.

I have not had the issue since switching to an Ethernet connection.

But then you aren’t using Plex by doing this, right? If so, then that is neither a solution nor a workaround.

Did I say I was presenting a solution or workaround? No.

I want simply to contribute new information in case it may help someone. Sheesh.

Not sure ā€œI worked around it by not using Plexā€ contributes much to the conversation, but then neither does this comment. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I think you are trying to hard too read between the lines…

After browsing a local SMB share, Plex was able to play videos again.

You replied, ā€œDid I say I was presenting a solution or workaround? No.ā€

I don’t think it’s reading between the lines to interpret your comment as that you weren’t using Plex. Whatever. Glad yours is working for you. :slightly_smiling_face:

You being defensive made you misunderstood my comment, sheesh. Anyway, as long as it’s working for you then good for you.

I’ve found a condition and a solution…
I was getting this slow network message only with very big or demanding video files, example
40GB movie DTS 7.1

My main server is a Synology DS918+ top specs
Gigabit Network / Wired

When playing with the Plex Android TV app …the messages start appearing (I review the cables, the router config, the ips…nothing solve it)

So i start thinking maybe my Synology is not powerful enough, so I change the Plex Server from the Synology to my MacPro Xeon 64GB and…everything was the same…

Then I think…maybe the problem is not in the source but in the receiver, so IĀ“ve tried FireTv (same.), Apple TV 4k (Better but still freezes) and then I tried on my PS4 and it just doesn’t appear anymore also audio and video was fine, I’ve tested from the Synology and from the MacPro as different sources with good results in both cases

The problem seems to be not in the server but in the player that is not powerful enough to handle that amount of data (around 70-80mb/s info …this is what appears in the playing log) , for normal 10 GB video files I can use the android tv app without any issue but for larger o demanding files…now IĀ“m using the PS4 and also…no issues.

Hope this helps someone.

Up to this point, it’a been known that the issue is in between a mix of server and client software. So it’s not the same for everyone but I have the same experience as you do. The problem in my system is the plex app in my nvidia shield.

Oh my life when your wife keeps on asking you why a stupid message is coming up saying server too slow and you know you got a 16core thread ripper, 16gb of 30000Mhz ram and WD reds, a wired 1Gbps duplex to all your devices and using local play not remote, unraid really only running plex is a joke I’m getting fed up of this now, I’ve been a plex pass member for 2 months now but I think I’m losing it as it’s never happened in the past two to three years my server has been running really annoying now, I may need to go back to Embey with my tail between my legs

So gone to Emby must say it’s running good, I keep plex cancel my subs and get emby premiere as see how that goes may switch plex on the server now and again to check if it’s not fixed by next year I’m moving on!

Emby works pretty well and has plenty of features that Plex lacks…and vice versa.
I still use Plex but the particular issue of this thread has been going on far too long.

My Shield became unusable but seems to have calmed down a little. Of late the same issue appears on my ATV 4K occasionally.

Either way it seems there is little interest in fixing it. This along with the other two threads on the issue amount to over 1200 posts.

Yes my ATV 4K is doing it’s nut with this message now.

One heads up for you as you use the ATV 4K
If you use HDR Emby still can’t sadly on that device.
As I said there are good and bad points in both the Orange and Green media server options.

Despite owning a Shield the ATV 4K is still by far my preferred device. So lack of HDR was a major stumbling block for me.

Yeah i do use HDR but for me the time content take to get going is soo much faster, seeking through content is fast
