Plex Player - "Your connection to the server is not fast enough to stream this video."

well, nvidia have some live chat support, i talked to them and they created it for me. not that it helps, the case is now 4 days open and i only got an email about my case having been “escalated”…
suppose if more people open cases they will start taking it more seriously though…

I get the same “Your connection is not fast enough…” nonsense,
Shield TV 7.2.1
plex client 7.9.0.0439

however the same files play perfectly on the same device using kodi
This has been going on for a while now (a few months I would guess), wish plex could put resource into bug fixes rather than silly new features nobody is asking for

I have logged a case with NVidia support and last I heard it was escalated and they are investigating. Doesn’t look like there is a way to log a case with Plex other than the forums here.

Really annoyed that we haven’t had anyone even take a look at this.

I have switched over to Emby now for the Shield and will likely stick with it. I highly recommend those of you with the same issues switch over too.

funny you should say that, i just installed the emby server and im in progress of trying it out with my shield…

I think I’m going to have to shine to nvidia too, if only to bring some pressure down in Plex.

the more the merrier…

I recently upgraded my router that has a much faster network storage transfer rate. The pauses I was experiencing on certain Remuxes (exclusively Star Wars movies) have all since disappeared. I suppose that could mean my original problem was that the old router was moving files too slowly. However, if that was the case then my old WD Live should have had the same issues - which it didn’t. Not to mention the WD Live only has 100 mbps, whereas the Shield is gigabit. Given that the problem has since disappeared I can move on. Perhaps upgrading your router can fix these issues…?

Well… my content is being served by a 10Gbps Unraid server… I don’t think my server network connection speed has anything to do with it. This is absolutely an issue with the Shield 7.2.X upgrade. On 1 of my TVs I’m running a Playstation 4 and it plays just fine (the client is crappy by comparison, but at least it plays).

I just resolved the issue on my Nvidia Shield by uninstalling the Plex update, bringing me back to stock version 5.6.1.505 (25ece77b).

Settings > Apps > Plex > Uninstall Updates

Uninstall the Plex update. Might work for you like it did me.

I uninstalled the updates previously but there was no change. Might try it again to see if anything changes.

If you’ve installed Oreo you can’t downgrade far enough to fix the problem. My guess is @dave_michael hasn’t installed Oreo, which is why he was able to go all the way back to 5.6. You don’t even need to go back that far, you only need to get back to 6.12, but that requires sideloading/etc, and isn’t possible on Oreo either.

Thanks mate, that explains it. I did try uninstalling the updates again to try it and the main issue is still there, although it does play the media a little longer before the same error pops up. Definitely still not watchable though.

I am having the same problem. I have a Firestick, and when I have been streaming a video for about ten minutes, it stops streaming and says “Your connection to the server is not fast enough to stream this video.”
I have a 1 gig connection to the house, and am pulling about 200Mbps download speed where the Firestick is located. So I don’t think my connection speed is the issue.

Same problem on my Shield TV with 7.2.1. It happens both in the plex app and in the plex for Kodi app, although the Kodi version seems much better about recovering.

Exactly same thing happen in to me word for word lol

Same issue here as everyone else. If I uninstall all of the updates for the Plex client to roll it back to the version that the shield originally shipped with (Settings > Apps > Plex > Uninstall Updates) everything plays back without issue. I setup an Emby server on the same system as the Plex server (so there were no hardware differences), linked it to the same files, and have no issues with playback on my Shield. All files in Emby showed direct playback with ExoPlayer. (didnt say V2 like the Plex app does with the latest client) Haven’t tried Kodi with the Plex add-on. At this point if Plex cant get this fixed soon ill just have to jump ship and switch to Emby.

I’ve used Emby for a good couple of weeks now and have come to really like it. So far I have yet to hear anything from Plex about this issue so looks like its sayonara from me now. Won’t be renewing my Plex Pass.

Like others here, since the Shield 7.2.1 upgrade I have not been able to stream video files stored on my NAS using Plex. Every file loads, streams for 10 seconds, freezes and a message pops up saying “Your connection to the server is not fast enough to stream this video. Check your network or try a lower quality”.

The same video files stream perfectly when I use Emby or Kodi.

I tried again after the 7.2.2 upgrade today with the same results. So frustrating since everything streamed fine before Christmas. I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled Plex updates and tried several other suggestions from others with the same problem but nothing works.

Apparently, there will be another Shield update in one or two days that “may” resolve this problem according to Nvidia. Let’s hope so!

I am finding that Emby works quite well and I will probably pay to unlock it after my “free trial” expires in a few days.

I too am having issues after the Nvidia 7.2.X updates. Before the updates, I was able to stream 4k remuxes over WiFi with ease. The largest file being approx 70Mbps. After the update I can’t stream a 1.5Mpbs file without it stopping 2 minutes in with the above mentioned error.

I just updated to 7.2.2 an hour ago and it has not helped at all. Right now Plex is completely unusable on all my Shields :frowning: I’m not sure if this is a Plex issues or Nvidia issue but it sure is frustrating coming from literally years of no issues.
