I have reipped and uploaded my Game of Thrones series to my library using the naming convention that was discussed in another forum post. For whatever reason, it is playing the series in random order not sequentially. I have used FileBot to bring in the titles accordingly using the TvDb setting so im not sure what the issue is. I have tried looking in the settings but to be honest Plex settings is enormous and i cant even begin to think where a setting would be for this issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
So which one? There are hundreds of forum topic discussing naming for tv shows. Some of them citing horribly wrong naming schemas.
There is only one valid and supported naming convention for Plex: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/
Yes, that is the exact one i used to set the naming conventions.
Then it is your files which may be out of order.
How are you determining that the playback is in the wrong order?
With GOT its pretty easy. Ive watched it all the way thru once so i have an idea of what each episode should be like. For instance, I played Season 2 ep 2 and The Red Woman is in that episode. that is not right as she doesnt come into the series until season 6. so my process is this. i rip my dvd to mp4, load it into File Bot to change the title and confirm the title with the DVD sleeve or wikipedia, copy it to my library and plex updates. if there were more than two episodes per DVD i can see how this might be a user error but with GOT there are only two episodes per disk to deal with. i cant see how i wouldve copied season 6 episodes to season 2. Hence why im thinking this is a plex issue.
Please play the video file which has “S02E02” in its file name with a regular desktop video player (e.g. VLC) and compare it with what plays in Plex.
If the two are identical, your file has the wrong file name.
Do also inspect the Plex media info of the episode which is shown in Plex as Episode 2 of Season 2.
Look for the file name which is shown at the top of the media info and make sure it contains “S02E02” as well.
Ok, thank you for the help. I will try these things and see what turns up.
Always remember that PLEX has zero idea what video it is playing. It just goes and grabs S02E02 and plays it. Now if that happens to actually BE S02E02 then cool. It is is a video of your kid’s birthday party, it will play that. It doesn’t know. All it knows is what you call it. This is why I get confused when people get all bent about DVD order vs Air order for shows like Firefly. If you think episode 4 should play where episode 2 is, name it episode 2.
I understand. And im not upset about it…just wanting to understand if i did something wrong or it was a setting (shuffle vs continuous) or a glitch in Plex. Being i took my time processing all these videos for over a week, im just scratching my head how this happened. Im almost wondering if the dvds were burnt incorrectly or possibly mislabled. Its a stretch i know but you never know. Again, Thanks all for your help.
