Plex Podcast App: Playback Error - This server is not powerful enough to convert audio (in Safari for macOS)

Server Version#: 1.20.4.3517
Player Version#: 4.43.4
(File removed)

macOS Safari 14.0.1 is the main browser that I use daily. However, I can play ALL media except for my Podcasts which results in error each time with the message: Playback Error - This server is not powerful enough to convert audio.

I have searched hard to see if anyone else has had the same error but to no avail.

Please see that attached screenshot:

That’s not going to show up in your server logs. You’ll need to provide the logs from Plex Web. Plex Web App Logs | Plex Support

Here you are Player Web Logs as requested.

Thanks. That is weird. Plex Web is reporting that it doesn’t support MP3. Do you have a local server with music? Have you tried playing any of those to see if mp3’s work?

Edit - Follow up. I don’t use Safari but Google indicates that Safari 14 has a feature to prevent music from playing from websites. You might need to add Plex Web to the list of exceptions. Look under Preferences for the feature Auto-Play.

To answer your 1st question: Yes I can play my MP3 music just fine see below:

I have set Auto-Play: Allow All Auto-play, see below.

Ok. Let me check around and see if anyone has an idea what’s going on.

Got word that Safari broke something. There is a workaround in the current hosted version at app.plex.tv. You’ll just have to wait for that to roll around to the local PMS or for Safari to fix the problem.

The workaround works in Safari but then my local PMS gets disconnected. I am agreeing that Safari broke something because everything work just fine Google Chrome and Firefox. So, hopefully with PLEX or Apple will Fix this issue.

Currently, my local PMS was upgraded to the latest version Version 1.20.5.3600, and still no joy with Safari Version 14.0.1.
