How to make Plex work only on a local network

Hello dear Plex community. I have one problem that I can’t handle. There is a home NAS with the TrueNAS Scale 25.04.2.4 operating system. There are 3 devices, a computer, a TV and a set-top box. The computer, NAS, and TV are connected to the home network via a keenetik router, and the set-top box connects via WiFi. The router has a static IP set up for all devices.
The PMS application is installed and configured on the NAS. The paths to the libraries are configured via the Plex web interface, and the network settings specify IP TV, computers, and set-top boxes that are allowed to connect without authentication. There is a relay check mark in the Plex settings. In this version of the settings, everything seems to work, but when I try to play media, a message pops up that I am not connected to PMS directly and the entire broadcast will go through the Plex servers using retransmission. If I uncheck the relay box on any device, I don’t see my content. I want my media to be available only on the local network without retransmission, so that the computer, TV and set-top box are connected to my PMS directly and the video is played in its original quality, but I can’t do it. Maybe I haven’t set up something somewhere, but I can’t figure out what and where. Please tell an inexperienced user.

Hey welcome to the forums. There’s a How-To sub which includes a guide for no internet.

In addition to @nibbles’ excellent advice, have a look here for some info on how to ensure your TrueNAS Scale-based PMS can be seen as local:

I did as written, everything worked, but if you physically disconnect the Internet cable from the router, the Plex application does not load at all, there is an endless download waiting, an orange circle, and that’s it. Is this normal?

The Plex ecosystem, in general, requires a stable Internet connection for normal operation. There are some things you can do to mitigate this for short durations (search the forum for “Plex without Internet”) but you really need to have an Internet connect available for consistent operation.

On each of the devices, go into the Plex app settings and see if you can enable insecure connections. You also may be able to choose between local and always.

More specific information on the devices and how you are running Plex on each, app or web client, could be helpful.

I open it on my computer via a web client, applications are installed on my TV and set-top box. In the application settings, I searched for the item you are talking about, but I did not find it.

Which TV & STB?

The Plex apps vary widely based on the TV and OS (tizen, webos, android, etc.).

The Plex Smart TV apps (tizen, webos, vidaa, etc.) require an Internet connection to work. The app on the TV is just a small “loader” app. When launched, it checks with plex.tv for updates and downloads the full app if needed. If it cannot check in with plex.tv, then it most likely will not work without an Internet connection.

[HowTo] Use Plex with No Internet , in the section linked by @nibbles, has additional information.

For the most part, you have to have things configured before the Internet is unavailable.
