Problem: I have a Mac Mini Plex server connected to a Synology NAS. Every week or two, Plex will empty my music library and start adding all albums as new again. I’ve seen this process go quickly but most often it takes something close to a full day to add all of the albums back. I can’t access my music until Plex finds it and adds it again.
Hypothesis: I’m not quite sure why this is happening. I do know that the connection between the Mac Mini and the Synology will sometimes will be broken for short periods of time. My understanding is that if Plex tried to scan my music library and the music library is in accessible then all albums would be removed from my library. Then when the next scan occurs and the connection between the Mac Mini and Synology has been restored, Plex will add all the albums to the library as new.
I see two problems with this hypothesis:
First – This hypothesis would make sense if I were scanning automatically (Plex might see the volume becoming inaccessible as a “change” that it has to respond to). However, I have Plex set to scan only on a schedule of every 6 hours:
Given how infrequent these disconnects are occuring, how infrequent the scans are running, and how often I’m seeing the issue in Plex occur, it seems unlikely this would be the cause.
Second – This isn’t happening to any of my other libraries (TV, Movies, Home Videos, etc.). It only affects the Music library. All of my Plex libraries reside on the Synology. If this issue was due to volumes being disconnected during library scans, why wouldn’t other libraries be affected?
Any ideas why this is happening?
