I have one missing episode for Stargate Atlantic (the last one of the entire series).
As it is showing again on TV, I decided to record so that I would get that last episode. However, it is trying to record everything again.
âŠso I am in the weird situation of living in the UK but needing to match some shows in my library using âEnglish - United Statesâ (instead of âEnglish - United Kingdomâ) so that new recordings will match existing shows even though those existing shows were themselves DVRâd in the UK last year.
In my experience - the DVR will show the episodes will record, but they actually wonât if you have them already - and theyâre all matched to the same show. Itâs a Leap of Faith. You have to find out what happened afterwards to know (or guess) whatâs gonna happen in the future.
My EPG is so bad theyâll call American Experience - S01E10 ----> S54E21 (or something equally incorrect), so⊠yea, the DVR records those. The EPG has the NOVA episodes correct, so it doesnât record those repeats.
Worse: The DVR adds a (YEAR) field to everything - and when matching against TVDB that doesnât work very often. The EPG will provide the metadata, but if youâre matching (or trying to match) an existing show - theyâll be two different shows to the DVR.
The ânewâ episodes did record (giving me duplicates) and only stopped when I re-matched against US info. In some cases that means a different title (eg: NCIS) or not (eg: SG: Atlantis).
We have loads of âone-offâ errors (so many, it must be a systematic error, of course):
Regularly, the last episode or a special will record with the date instead of season/episode so you have to go figure out what it really was (but at least it recorded).
Every now and then Plexâs EPG completely misses a show because of wrong episode/season (and you have already recorded that âwrongâ one) so youâve lost it until the repeats come round (if it comes round).
For many US shows, Plex shows the 1st two episodes as merged causing the 2nd episode to be missed and every subsequent episode to be out by 1 for the rest of that season.
Lucky for me - our transmitter (the one) was hit by lightning 7 years ago so it only works when they reboot it - On The Air: 35%, Maybe. When itâs working it broadcasts 2 viable channels.
Itâs easier to fiddle with 2 channels that donât half work - than⊠more than 2 channels that do work.
If youâve been trying to get that episode for as long as I tried to get âThe Rose Tattoo (1955)â - I suggest you move Stargate Atlantis OUT of Plexâs View - until you have it aboard.
The Rose Tattoo was 37 years in the makingâŠ
You wouldnât want to miss this opportunityâŠ
Thanks for the advice. If I move it out, it will try to download every episode all again (I want the last episode of the last season only) which is over 2 months away, so I have put it in my schedule to check it the week and night before.
and in the end - The Rose Tattoo is one of Lancasterâs least liked performances. A reviewer called it âWreched Overactingâ and while I would agree with that description - itâs still a pleasure to see him do it.
The first incidences appear to be linked to Plex only associating Plexâs UK EPG TV listings with library TV that has been fix-matched using âEnglish United Statesâ as the language.
I have no clue why the last one is happening as I tried the fix-match solution and it has made no difference. I am therefore recording episodes I donât need to which is annoying.
