Hello everyone, I understand PLEX its pretty much free and I really wouldn’t matter if I had to pay to use it. But this week I have been experiencing some weird behavior that made me question its reliability. I’m not sure about the source of this issues but I it looks like PLEX its not capable of working without calling home for some reason.
Before this weekend I could pretty much play anything trough the PS4 and a SONY TV apps, but out of the sudden some movies simply stopped playing. I went to the Mac Server app and tried to play those movies straight from the web UI, and I had the same problem. Both local and MediaTomb DLNA playback worked fine.
I reinstalled PLEX, deleted all the configuration files and cache and the problem persisted. After a while I was able to play the movies locally from the web UI, and the Sony Smart TV begin to play the movies just fine, but then I went on to check the PS4 app and the problem persisted (There was problem playing this file).
Today I decided to take a look and I went to the Sony TV and after attempting to open the App I got a “Oops, a 500 error…” screen. I decided to go to the PELX website forums and I got the same error and then I went to the Mac server app and I again I couldn’t play the movies trough the web UI, and after checking the PS4 app I couldn’t even attempt to play any file, it looked like the play button was locked.
I understand that the PS4 and Sony apps use the PLEX login for syncing, I don’t know maybe is a Sony requirement of some kind but it should work independently.
