Having same issue. Started about a few weeks ago and has been working for years. My case happens to be ISP related. they are running out of IP’s so they implemented CGNAT. I am currently working on getting a service upgrade so my Dynamic IP is public and not shared. Are you on Cable or Fiber? You may have same issue.
First you need a Plex Pass or Remote Watch Pass. For best results the server should be connected via ethernet at the same Eero that is connected to the ISP’s ethernet.
Tell us what step you are having trouble with, and you should probably reveal the first two octets of your public IP ex. XXX.XXX.YYY.YYY so that we know if it is CGNAT or not.
Port forwarding can be configured in Network settings in the eero app.
- Open the eero app
- Tap on the Settings tab
- Tap on Network settings
- Tap on Reservations & Port Forwarding
- From here, you can add an IP Reservation under IPv4 Reservations & Port Forwards or a firewall rule under IPv6 Firewall Rules
- You can assign permissions to a previously connected device, or manually add a new device. You will assign the Device Name, and the desired IP at this stage.
- Select Open a Port. A pop-up will appear. Select Save.
- You can now edit the permissions with a specific IP address (IPv4 only), MAC address and open a specific internal/external port (you can open a range of ports by inputting the starting port number followed by a dash then the finishing port number). You can also select a protocol for both TCP & UDP or either TCP or UDP
- Hit the Save button on the top right of the screen to save this setting.
This Plex Support Doc should answer all you need.
I’ve been having similar issues the last few days, and I’m assuming it’s been since the upgrade to 1.42.1.10060. “Port forwarding” is new to me - I’ve never had this issue until this week - is it something caused by the upgrade? I feel like there’s a key step in this process that I’m missing.
It would be worth having a read of the following Notification.
I have an Eero and have the same issue.
For Step 5, what am I adding as the IP Reservation?
For Step 6, I should just manually add a new device right? If so, what would be an example of the desired IP?
How necessary is Step 8?
Thanks!
My server is up to date though. Is it something they’re doing internally before the access would be back?
I’m the server owner and when I take my phone of WiFi, I cannot access my server on the mobile app so I don’t get what they mean that “server owners will still be able to access the server as normal”
My managed users can access my server if we’re on the same network of course, but that’s obviously the reason why lol
I had the same issue but it resolved itself after about 30 minutes after upating the server.
I assume that the Plex servers are overwhelmed so authentication is delayed.
I did nothing else than wait and restarted the client app.
That is what I get for copy/paste the directions from Eero, directions are definitely lacking and don’t have any screenshots to assist.
IP reservation would be the Servers IP
Step 6 would be if you need to modify an entry
Step 8 optional
Again these are Eero’s own instuctions. You can try to post your screenshots.
Reservations & port forwarding
You can go here to assign IP reservations and port forwarding rules for devices on your eero network. Port forwarding allows you to manually open an Internet port for a single client, to let traffic pass directly through to that machine. For example, if you wanted to run a FTP server on your laptop with an IP address of X.X.X.X, you might create a port-forward on port 21 that directs TCP traffic to that IP address through your eero.
