Plex remote connection...unable to access outside network

Hello BigWheel,
I thought I would write to you directly in hopes maybe you have an easy answer. I saw there were connectivity issues late last week. I noticed that we couldn’t connect using roku ultras. I didn’t see those mentioned. Pc’s and other devices could connect without issue. I created a post in the plex server/roku forum and a kind member offered some suggestions.

My plex server has always worked with things set as default. It also always showed that the service was available outside my network. The ip’s for private and public were different with different ports. The public port always displayed green with internet access. I tried selecting the option to manually specify public port and now the status always shows as not available outside network. Although pc’s can still connect remotely but not the rokus. I noticed the original public port is gone and is now 32400 as well and no longer green indicating the internet access. The status goes from full accessible to no longer accessible after a few seconds when refreshed.

Any ideas?
Thank you!

hey.

the “manually specified port” field is if you are manually setting up a port forward in your router. you have to enter the port you used in the port forward there. by default the server expects that your router is set to use UPnP, which is automatic port forwarding.

Outside of doing simple things like restarting your server or Rokus. I would start with checking what the secure connection setting is on your servers network settings and what your Rokus are set to as far as allowing insecure connections.

Thank you for your response!

I was able to resolve the issue. Another admin reset the cert which helped a lot and a few devices needed to be set to insecure always.

Take care

Hi - I am having this same issue. How can I get an admin to reset my certificate?

@mmalan This link for cert reset.

I’m having similar issues with certain devices not being able to reach my server (3 mac computers and multiple ipads) while others (apple tv, iphones, surface laptop, roku etc) have no issue at all. I had been using default remote access options with no issue but when I started having trouble (more than a week ago), I changed to a manual port forward which did not fix my issue. I have double checked that the mac computer can ping the server with no issue. Can you please check/and or reset my certificate to see whether that is causing my issue?
