My remote access is suddenly not working today. Remote Access has a Green Checkmark. I’m getting errors that the server is not secure. So far, I’ve turned off my router firewall temporarily, updated to the latest version of Plex server, tried Chrome and Firefox on several remote machines in different remote locations. It seems that the service that creates the secure connections is either overwhelmed or not functioning properly. Thanks for your help.
First validate your network settings in Plex via Settings > Remote Access>
Make sure you see a PRIVATE connection similar to Private 192.168.X.XX: 32400 Public XX.X.XX.XX : 32400
Next, add a checkmark to Manually specify public port set the port to 32400 and hit apply.
Then be patient, give it 30 secs to a min (depending on your network and machine speeds)
This should re-enforce the setting in Plex and grant remote access to Plex.

Has anybody found a solution with the Remote Access problem? I have been running Plex without any problems for several years and suddenly this summer this started. I and running my server on a MacMini with MacOS 10.13 6 (High Sierra). I have tried everything suggested by the Forum without success. The Remote function stays up , sometimes a few seconds and sometimes longer, but never permanently.
I would really appreciate help with this since I am traveling a lot and constantly want to use my Plex from remote locations. This function has been the best part of Plex for me!!
Additional info on this problem:
When playing with the server today I found out that every time I clicked on General (under the Settings grouping) the Remote Access was disconnected. Any comments on that?
Unfortunately, your suggestions did not change my outcome. I also had already referenced the Plex help doc on Remote Access. What’s interesting is that the app on my phone worked remotely with no issue today. The web still cannot connect securely through Chrome or Firefox. I’m not sure why this issue has crept up when I’ve had no issues for years.
Hello,
I tried the suggestion as well but unfortunately didn’t work for me either. I’ve always left my settings as default and first noticed the issue when roku ultras could no longer connect remotely a few days ago. My private ip and port were different than the public ip and port.; with the public port in green status indicating connection to internet. After trying the above the public port is now 32400 but the status has a red x and the message always indicates not available outside network. After refreshing it states it’s available and quickly goes back to not available. Although pc’s still have remote access but not the rokus. Also if I un-check the box to manually specify public port it defaults back to checked again.
Plex admins have a suggestion or know what’s occurring?
Go settings then settings/network and look for Enable Relay. If it’s ticked, untick and save. Then re tick it and save again.
This fixed the recent remote issues for me.
My brothers LG TV still couldn’t connect though so on further inspection I had to enable insecure connections on his LG TV PLEX app and then he had full access again.
I managed to get it back to fully accessible outside network again by removing the check from manually specify port. I had to let it sit a bit and then it went back to the default settings. Most everything can connect remotely accept the rokus. Enable Relay option trick didn’t work.
@bpetrel@bkjeell maybe it’s part of the cert issue that popped up last week? There’s a long thread about it. In my case the browsers (chrome/edge) connect fine. Just not the rokus. And an android which I don’t really use popped up with the secure connection error.
Zmeister68,
I tried your suggestion about removing the chekmark without success. What system are you running on? I am running my Plex on a dedicated Mac mini and am using Safari as the browser to control the Plex server app.
My remote access stays up for several hours most of the time, but sometimes it immediately closes down after I “restart” it. So, I then retry restarting it until it stays on for a while…
