Plex Roku App version 6.7.3 broke - Plex app crashes

Server Version#: 1.21.0.3616
Player Version#: Roku Plex App, version 6.7.3

I see you guys pushed out version 6.7.3 on Roku for the Plex App. Thanks a lot, this update now causes the Plex app to crash. I get the splash screen on my TCL TV and Roku stick on another TV for the Plex app as it starts to launch and almost immediately the app crashes. Sometimes you get lucky and it loads into the Plex app and you can see your shows, but picking a show or even after a few seconds the Plex app crashes.

Whatever you guys changed, revert it please. I had zero issues using Plex on my roku devices yesterday. No other software or hardware change occurred other than the updated Plex app version that was pushed out 8-10 hours ago.

I can use Plex on my personal computer and I can use plex on my Android device and even run Plex on my PS3 without issues. But any Roku device the Plex app crashes within 5-10 seconds.

If you want more info on my TCL TV:
Model 50FS3800
Roku software version 9.4.0, build 4190-08

We are investigating this. Early investigation is indicating having an older server on the network could cause a crash. The minimum server was raised to 1.18.3, and we should show an indication in the channel that the server needs to be updated, but we may be crashing if the server is older than 1.13.9. Can you check to see if they have any servers older than 1.13.9 on your network and either upgrade those or turn them off if they are unused. Please let us know if this fixes the issue.

note: I see you mention your server is 1.21.x, but we’ve seen a few users who have older servers still running that would be affecting this. It’s also possible an older server that is shared with you can cause the issue.

Just the one server on my network. I even updated to the most recent available version that Plex has available when you ā€œcheck for updatesā€. I’m utilizing version 1.21.0.3711 on my server now.

I’ve also removed the plex app from the roku devices and re-installed it. I tried doing a system reset on the Roku TV as well, but I’m met with the same results: the Plex app running version 6.7.3 on the Roku devices crashes.

I am also experiencing the same issue, yesterday everything worked fine and this morning it crashes after a few seconds. I am running plex from a Western Digital MyCloud4100PR and I just updated my Plex app to version 1.20.4.3517, that’s the latest version from WD right now.

Actually I am wrong. I double checked and I now see version 1.21.0.3711 but I’m guessing I’ll get the same result as neatfeatguy.

We’ll have to take a deeper dive if there is no old PMS on the network. Could you send over the serial number of the Roku device as well as your Plex username in a DM.

I see you have 3 servers. One which was upgraded to 1.21, but two are still running fairly old versions: 1.12.1 and 1.13.2. Please feel free to DM me more more info about those two on your network.

Not at home right now.

I know that Microsoft royally mucked up Windows 10 so bad a couple of times with updates on my server that I had to format and do clean installs. Would the old Plex servers from those old Windows 10 installs some how still be linked to my Plex account/server? These re-installs of Windows 10 happened during the Windows 10 updates of 1709 and about a year later with 1809. The updates broke Windows so bad no recovery could be done and no system restore could be done, either. I had to format and re-install Windows 10.

Since I’m not at home I can’t check if any other device is running any kind of server software that I’m not aware of. I’ll update more info once I get home from work.

Possible that some stale servers may be linked, but it only matters if the server software is still running, so I’d say that’s unlikely to be the cause. The common scenario we’ve see is old PMS installs on various computers that are unused or abandoned. Those installs could still be running and causing the issue once they are discovered in the Plex channel.

@neatfeatguy I was able to find your account, and I do see two linked servers. One is running 1.21.0 (good) and another that is most likely causing the issue is running 1.10.1. Feel free to PM me more more info about that instance if you have trouble finding it.

I am having the same issue, except… this only affects my admin account/profile. I have 2 other profiles on there that function perfectly. I have version 1.21.xx (not at home to verify the exact number). This is incredibly frustrating and hopefully a solution is found quickly.

EDIT: apparently I did have another server link still running 1.12 that was causing a conflict. Updated that and all is well.

Same issue here, broken Plex player app on our Roku player this morning. We have two PMS installs on two Linux boxes here, a primary machine that is the main server and a secondary that is only used if the primary must be taken offline. Upgrading just the primary from 1.13x to 1.21x did not clear the problem, but when I upgraded the secondary as well, the problem disappeared.

Wow! Here I was ready to get all Grinchy, but sure enough, one of my servers was running 1.10.1. I updated it, signed in, and everything works now! Thanks!

If you have more than one server, check them all and update as needed. It will fix this problem!

I didn’t realize I had a second server setup for another computer - never updated the plex software on it since it was setup years back.

I updated the version to the most current and no more issues with the Plex App on the Roku devices.

Thanks for the help!

This sounds exactly what I am experiencing. My 2 Roku devices will try to connect and fail, i can still connect using my android tab. Issue started yesterday sometime.

Plex will not load on my Roku Ultra model 4640x . Checked my settings on Plex and it says version 3.57.1

I try to launch the app it flickers and goes back to the Roku main screen. Will not load. Plex seems to be working fine on my PC.

I had an old server on a NAS that I don’t use for plex anymore but was still on my network. Unplugged the drive and now the App is working again and not crashing

I am having this exact same issue since an update to the Plex app on my Roku devices as well. I have updated everything and the problem persists.

I know my server is up to date, but how do I check the versions of other servers that friends are sharing with me?

Thanks

We have published a Preview version that should fix the issue.

Problem with Plex client on Roku Streaming Stick+ and Roku 3.

I’m assuming Plex did an upgrade to v6.7 build3 in the last couple of days. It crashes on the Roku stick during initial loading or when navigating to a program to view and returns to the home menu. Yesterday there was a Roku update to 9.4.0 build 4200-50. Great, all things being equal they should now balance…no such luck it still crashes.

Tried - restart, no effect
- power off restart, no effect
- remove Plex, reboot, add Plex, will not run Plex at all! :rage:

Firestick - It’s all working and that’s just updated too!

LG ā€˜Smart’ TV - Upgraded this morning to a new Plex app version! Working fine.

Roku 3 - Same issue as Roku Stick. Plex 6.7 b3 won’t run!
