There appears to be some sort of leak/slowdown either in Roku, or in Plex for Roku.
If I hard-reboot my TV, things work as expected.
If I haven’t rebooted recently, when plex loads, I do not see any posters in any libraries (on my own server, or on other servers)
After watching something, when going back to the library, posters are loaded. (I haven’t explicitly tested just waiting a long time without playing anything)
The only app we use on Roku is Plex, so nothing else should be getting loaded.
When you say “hard-reboot” your TV, was that by pulling the power cable or using the reboot option in the menu? I ask because the menu option isn’t as full of a reboot as pulling the power cable; pulling the power cable clears caches that aren’t cleared using the menu reboot and can fix oddities. This is true of the TV (I have two TCLs) and boxes (I have a few) - been using the pull power “fix” for many many years to clear up occasional weird bugs. Might be worth a shot.
The reset in the power menu works, in that after the reset posters load immediately. But at some point after that the “leak” accumulates and the problem returns.
That is why I recommend trying the “pull power” option. I have had numerous issues with apps on Roku (including Plex) that weren’t fixed unless I pulled the power cable to fully clear some remembered setting it wouldn’t forget from the menu reboot alone. It only takes 30 seconds so worth a try at least.
I have had to do that with the TVs more than the boxes too.
The app reset works. This is good for two reasons. First, its much faster than the whole reboot. Second, IMO it is a good diagnostic pointing to the problem being in the Plex code, not the Roku OS.
pulling power “worked” in that the problem was temporarily resolved, but it came back after a day or so, so did not do anything the normal reboot didn’t do.
I have this issue on 2 devices. A roku ultra and a roku soundbar. both are on the local network. I have a couple of lesser roku devices (Express + and Express 4k) that are at my GF’s house, and they never have this issue.
The ultra gets the issue if it’s on a wired, or wireless network. the soundbar is wireless.
I have also had “content not available” errors on the local roku’s but not on the remote ones.
I might try routing the Rokus outside of my local network, and see if that helps.
