Plex Running out of RAM QTS Hero

Server Version#: 1.40.2.8395
Player Version#: n/a

Since upgrading to 1.40.2.8395 my Plex Server stops responding and get switched off with the following messages from QNAP:

Warning 2024-05-28 00:21:27 --- --- localhost --- Hardware Status Kernel [Hardware Status] NAS out of memory. Started kill process: 13843 "Plex Media Serv". Disable some applications to free up memory, or expand the system memory.

Warning 2024-05-28 00:21:41 --- --- localhost --- --- --- [System Message] PlexMediaServer has been automatically disabled by QTS to free up system memory.

My NAS is on QTS Hero h5.1.6.2734 has an i7-12700 and 32Gb RAM and in the 2 years that this has been in place, it’s never had this issue. The only other thing that runs on it is a PiHole in Container station that uses virtually no resources.

This has happened for the past 3 nights now, is their a known issue in the version of PMS?

Thanks

Do you have the DLNA server enabled? If so, disable it. It has a memory leak that slowly consumes RAM.

DNLA is disabled already, thanks for the suggestion though

FYI - Ran out of memory again this last night, that’s 4 days in a row now.

Upgraded NAS to QTS Hero h5.1.7.2770 this morning, see if that helps

OK, new firmware did not help. Figured out that it occurs when Plex is running scheduled maintenance. I changed the time of maintenance to test, from 01:00 to 04:00 and sure enough, plex crashed at 04:06.

Any logs I can get to help with this?

OK, I figured it out. During scheduled maintenance Plex is doing sonic analysis of music files. One of my audiobooks accidently got copied up to music folder which, as the logs suggest, caused plex to literally poop itself.

Removed the audio book, change the maintenance window and sat and watched it process everything I’ve added for the last week.
