Plex scanner will not update

Server Version#: 1.41.9.9961-46083195d
Player Version#: 1.109.0.329-ea562b95
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

The external hard drive I was using to store my Plex content crashed on me, so I got a new drive and I’m in the process of adding stuff back into it. But after adding the new library folders and deleted the old ones, I was having some issues with the scanner. I tried to change it from Plex Movie to Plex Movie Scanner and set it to The Movie Database.

Once I did this, I saw a message telling me that I needed to “upgrade” my libraries to use the new scanners. I went ahead with the upgrade.

Except the upgrade doesn’t seem to be working. I’ve tried both with and without checking the “refresh metadata” option and each time, it immediately reverts back to the old Plex scanner. When I try to change it over again, I still get that “library upgrade required” message. I’ve tried “upgrading” the library a few dozen goddamn times and it never seems to take.

Someone on Reddit suggested DBRepair. I tried that but it said everything was fine. Tried a repair and a reindex anyway, but the problem still persists.

Can you post a copy of your server logs? that will give us someplace to start.

I have a stupid suggestion, but we need to start at the basics. If you are using adblockers please disable it, then open new incognito tab and try again. (trying to eliminate a couple of possible issues)

The problem happens if I use the browser agent on the machine hosting Plex or if I use Mac’s Plex app on another computer. However I tried incognito mode without an ad blocker and it didn’t change anything.

I am not seeing anything obvious in your logs, but you enabled verbose logs so the logs do not cover as much info as I would like.

Sorry, thought verbose was disabled.

The logs are still flooded with verbose info, you will need to stop the server, restart it and try to recreate the issue.

Just restarted it and recreated the issue.

@ChuckPa any chance you can take a look a these logs? Nothing is standing out to me.

I see 2 issues.

  1. The movie agent is missing. Try reinstalling pms
  2. Your server is equipped with 2 ip addresses. This can cause issues with pms. Disable 1 of the connections and see if that helps.

I’ve reinstalled the PMS, but doesn’t seem to have fixed anything. I’m not quite sure how to disable the second IP address. Is this because I have both wifi and ethernet connected? If so, then I did disconnect the wifi, but it doesn’t seem to have had an effect.

Updated logs attached.

I don’t see anything stand out to me in the logs. It looks like the library is being updated correctly to the correct scanner/agent.

It’s then scanning the files as expected. I’m not entirely sure what issue you’re seeing after this.

Could you go to Settings → Manage → Libraries and see if any of the libraries have the Upgrade Library warning that isn’t the one you’re working with. Maybe it’s a different library giving you that warning.

I keep seeing this error whenever I try to change the scanner. If I don’t upgrade the library, the scanner stays in place, but the error remains as seen in the screenshot. But if I upgrade, then the agent resets from The MovieDB and TVDB. And as you can see in the screenshot, it happens with both the Movie and TV libraries.

So you are seeing that message even when the library is set to Plex Movie/Plex Movie?

That’s definitely not expected. Could you try using a different browser or private/incognito mode and see if it still shows up?

Tried different browsers, tried it in the Plex for Mac app, tried it in incognito mode.

That’s very strange

Could you also just clarify what you mean here exactly. Note that this is exactly the correct behaviour, when upgrading the library it should switch to Plex Movie for the scanner and agent. TMDB and TVDB agents are legacy and not supported any more.

Once the scanner and agent is set to Plex Movie then the upgrade message should go away.

If we’re all on the same page then I’m out of ideas. I’d have to get a copy of your database and see if I can spot anything strange there. Feel free to DM me.

Im having the same problem. everything was running fine. now the tv show metadata is not updating.

You’ll need to report your specific issue separately with server logs.

Oh okay, then this is a case of me getting things backwards. I thought Plex Movie was the legacy one. I’m very sorry.
