I reformatted my server and now i have to manually select every file for matching, for posters etc.
When i go to advanced, i select plex movie scanner/the movie database. Then i can manually select posters etc. plex even then tells me “upgrade library” but then when i select upgrade/renew metadata, it just goes back to plex media/plex media. And no posters have been pulled.
Anybody have this error?
I thought it was a router issue but all plexs ports are open and i dont use a firewall on this pc.
The new scanners/agents are more stringent on enforcing Plex naming and organization requirements.
Rename/reorganize your media, especially TV shows, to align more closely with the Plex documentation.
You may need to Plex Dance the media after renaming the files.
Change one show to make sure things work correctly. If so, proceed with the rest.

why would they increase it’s stringency? i used these same files for 3 years, i guess the new one needs “proper” naming, where the old one worked fine?
also, how can i switch agents? that’s really my main question. every time i switch it, it switches back. is that some kind of error? can i just avoid changing files structure by going back to the old agent? I’d happily do that.
i think the agent knows anyhow, everytime i click match, it always pulls up the right movie, 99 percent of the time. can i just force the agent to pick whatever it lists as first choice?
If you pick the Plex Movie scanner, it auto-picks the Plex Movie agent. Same for Plex TV Series scanner/agent with TV shows. These are the new scanner/agents and you have to use one with the other.
To use the legacy scanners/agents:
Movies: Plex Movie Scanner and Plex Movie (Legacy) / The Movie Database / Personal Media
TV Shows: Plex Series Scanner and TheTVDB / The Movie Database / Personal Media Shows
Note the new scanners/agents are configured on a per library basis via Edit Library → Advanced. The options in Settings → Agents are not used. See the “Advanced Settings…” documents in the Scanners & Agents section of the Plex docs for additional details.
