So recently all my episodes have been downloading as such: law.and.order.svu.1614.mp4 which Plex is not picking up, so I have to manually rename all my episodes, is there a scanner to fix this?

You need to name your media properly. How you do so or automate it is up to you and outside the realm of Plex. See this support article on naming guidelines.
Tip: Filebot
I like to use a program called “theRenamer” to rename files, either one at a time or an entire HARD DRIVE’s worth ALL at one time! I first learned about it when I depended on my WDTV Live Hub as my media player.
It is super Easy to use!
It can look up TV episodes based on the databases of many WEB databases: TVDB, IMDB, TV.com & EPGuides.com - So if one doesn’t list your TV series, at least another probably does, if not more. In this way, it doesn’t matter what country your TV show was made it, it can look it up!
You can modify it’s naming of your TV shows/Episodes so that you can rename files as many different ways as you can think of: ie. “Mr. Ed S01E01” -or- “Mr. Ed 1x06” -or- “Mr. Ed S01E06 Ed Flies the Coup”, etc.
I initially used to use it primarily to rename downloaded files into some format my first media player would recognize easily (ie. Nova S01E01 Space & Beyond) and later, when I changed to XMBC & Plex, I just used it to rename my entire collection of media files (ALL at one TIME!) by changing the options to better suit PLEX (ie. Nova S01E01).
It also allowed me to fix any errors in named files that Plex has issues with, changing their renaming until Plex was happy - all at one time, and from one place… never having to rename individual files manually!

It you do use it, it has it’s own support forums… and online help file, which is good to look at but you can get it working almost without any help - Although I do recommend looking at their help files, anyway… so you can see where it’s options are.
Oh, YEAH… it can also rename MOVIES, too. Look in the help files to change it from TV into MOVIE mode!
