On my plex server (8 core I7), Plex scanning only consumes no more than 6-7% of the CPU. When adding a lot of content, it takes awhile. Is there anyway to allow it to add more threads to the process so it could scan faster? I’m not limited by mem, cpu or I/O right now.
There must be something holding it back. what OS? If linux, use top and look at all the resources. kernel I/O & system call overhead wait time don’t show in some tools. Same for Windows. Look at the big picture. (Resource monitor).
Windows 10.
I’m running a job right now on a couple TB.
Disk Idle Time is ~66%
Throughput @ 10mbps (on mirrored SSDs, so not even close to hitting cap)
CPU usage is at 7%.
Memory utilization @ 38%
Running a perfmon on all the usual counters is showing nothing remotely capped.
It’s really bizarre.
10 M bits/sec?? or 10 M Bytes/sec? You definitely have something holding you back. Anti-virus?
I’m a linux guy so forgive if I’m not familiar with all the nuances of windows.
There is an advanced setting to put scanning on the back burner.
Is it perhaps activated?
Settings - Server - Library - (Show Advanced) - “Run scanner tasks at a lower priority”
