Plex seems android to forget how to connect to my server intermittently when I am on the go

Server Version#: 1.32.5.7349
Player Version#:9.30.0.3604
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>
I’ll be on the go and wanting to listen to something and instead of seeing content from my library, I’ll see some “default” view of “What’s new on Plex” or something like that.

Most of it is video content that I have zero interest in.

This is in states where I have full wifi connection and can access other content over the internet without issue.

Has the phone switched between WiFi and mobile networks when the problem occurs?

There was a similar problem a couple years ago where the Plex app did not pick up the network switch correctly.

The workaround was to force quit, then relaunch the Plex app, after the phone had switched networks.

FYI, 4.114.3 is the Plex Web version.

PMS version is further down the page in Settings → Server_Name → General, or in Authorized Devices.

Not in any recent period of time.

Also swiping the app away and reloading will sometimes (but typically not) fix it.

I get pissed and then just open up my podcast app and then cry tears of regret for ever paying for a lifetime license for this POS.

Is this at like a coffee shop or something or like when you are in the car leaving home and it still shows a wifi connection from home wifi?

It is in all imaginable connectivity scenarios. On wifi, not on wifi (and I have a 4g or 5g connection), on a place that has both wifi and I have 5g data connection, etc.

I am a paying Plex Pass customer.

What does it take to get further investigation into this issue?

Your server logs, the Android logs and the version numbers of those you are using

Attached are logs from both.

Android version: 9.31.0.3817
Server version: 1.32.6.7468

Today it happened multiple times that I pressed play on the streaming content and nothing happened despite having seemingly full 4G-connectivity.

I got the “something went wrong” error.

How about it guys?

One thing I noticed in logs is lots of errors like the following:

Sep 17, 2023 18:39:05.355 [482811157680] WARN - [HttpClient/HCl#2363] HTTP error requesting GET https://213-80-123-36.fae9f08c4f714b9688249091cba8e930.plex.direct:18238/library/metadata/140787?includeChapters=1&includeMarkers=1&includeParentKey=1&includePreferences=1 (7, Couldn't connect to server) (Failed to connect to 213-80-123-36.fae9f08c4f714b9688249091cba8e930.plex.direct port 18238 after 107 ms: Couldn't connect to server)

Is your app using a retry policy for executing RPCs?

It really seems like part of the issue I experience is potentially due to network switching and your app not being tolerant to, for instance, the device putting the mobile/cellular radio to sleep when it doesn’t actively need it. A backoff policy with your RPCs would mitigate that.
