Plex server won’t play most media files in the movies folder. It will play the TV files and the music files. All three are on separate drives. It will play some movies in the movies section but won’t play 95%. It sees all the media, even adds them to the recently added section but will not play them. It will play those that I haven’t finished watching yet but most other movies it states that there was a problem with the media or the media is not supported. I am running Windows 7 and have fixed all the sharing permissions with this folder. All movies are MKV and they all played until about a month ago. I have removed the server and reinstalled, removed all the movies and reinstalled. I’ve even moved movies to a different drive and they still won’t play. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What Plex clients are you trying to use for playback?
Maybe try disabling Direct Play to see if you can force it to transcode. This is a guess, but it would help to know more about what your setup looks like.
My setup looks like this: I have a desktop at home with the connected hard drives that have my media. On the desktop, when I pull up the Plex Server it won’t play. When I’m away on a laptop it won’t play. On my Android app on my phone it won’t play. All my movies will play separately with VLC but not through the Plex Server.
