Over the past few days, Plex has been unable to reliably play videos. Every third episode of this or movie of that results in generic playback errors just a few minutes into the video.
Tinkering with various and sundry Plex settings has no effect.
Relaunching the snap Plex service has no effect.
Rebooting the Plex server has no effect.
htop shows 6 GB of available RAM and 99% available CPU.
df shows 200 GB disk available.
The fan spins gently.
Temperature readings within standard operating bounds.
The Plex streams simply crash at random.
The same videos play fine with VLC.
Deleting (both) Plex cache directory contents temporarily resolves the issue. But very soon after, the problem comes right back.
Plex has never been the most reliable platform. Now it’s completely unusable.
