You need to make sure the line that starts ExecStart=
is this:
ExecStart=/bin/sh -c 'LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/plexmediaserver /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex\ Media\ Server'
as @ChuckPa indicated

Okay, I’m up and running now. PMS is rebuilding my libraries.
I didn’t do anything different or change any files.
The only difference between now and earlier today is when I uninstalled this time, I then did a purge.
I hope this can help the devs figure out what went wrong because I believe something did.
Thanks for everyone who helped me out!
Don’t you all just LOVE SELinux?
Well, I still have my problem! I removed PMS and deleted all the file folders… anything that has to do with PMS and I still cannot install the deb file. Any of them! I tried 5 versions and get an error during installation! Guys please help the guy who started the thread!
If you cannot install the file… HOW are you trying to install it? Obviously something VERY basic is wrong at the (forgive) System or User level.
Are you doing the required sudo dpkg -i _filename_
?
Make sure not to manually remove the files but uninstall and then apt-get purge. Reboot and then autoremove to get rid of unnecessary dependencies.
This is what I did to get things working.
OK gang, I just used the Synaptic Package Manager and got rid of the last of the Plex files. Installed the last version of 0.9 and it installed properly with no errors. So now everything is working and scanning my drives. BUT! To be honest I’m scared shitless to go to any newer version.
Once all the scanning is done; all the metadata is downloaded; everything which is to be done is done, then do one more Update Library to be sure.
Optimize the database (you just added a lot of stuff to it)
shut down nicely
then upgrade to 1.0.2
OK, ChuckPa, I will do that next week, lots of media to go through. Also thanks for all your help!
When you say shut down nicely do you mean reboot or shutting down the service.
Shutown nicely Means “Stop the service” manually. The process is told “It’s time to go”. This is much more graceful than systemd killing off processes.
ChuckPa. followed your steps to update to the latest version, and got the original problem again. Completely removed everything and purge and still cannot get my server found in any version. Tried multiple times. About to give up on Plex and cancel my plex pass account.
Do one last thing…
If you cannot get to that point, the problem is not Plex. The problem is the OS installation
