Plex Server acting strange

Im running latest on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

Yesterday i updated server but after reboot my server was gone… had to tunnel into localhost and setup port/ssl & network… had medialibrary saved, but every user now have 2 servers on their accounts… a offline and a online…

any advise on why this happens?? it did once before a couple of month back…

Must have failed to locate the Preferences.xml and created a new server instance

See this article for location of the file
https://support.plex.tv/articles/202915258-where-is-the-plex-media-server-data-directory-located/

Do you have any old logs from the server from before the update?
Did the update indicate that an earlier version was found

no… don’t got any logs from prior update…
i got logs from just after the update… but none before…

and from the timestamp on my preference.xml i can see it was created last night… so what did happen to my old preferences.xml ??

Is the path on a fixed internal disk ? is it a mounted volume?

It should only create a new Preferences.xml if there was not one there to start with. If one existed and contained the MachineIdentifier and ProcessedMachineIdentifier fields then it would be using those and not generating a new machine identifier

yes its on a fixed internal disk…

Will leave this to the linux experts - cc @ChuckPa

  1. What did you update?
  2. Did you previous have a custom location for your Plex metadata outside /var/lib/plexmediaserver
  1. Just a normal sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
  2. no… standard location always
  1. So you updated the OS. That’s what I was asking with “What did you update?”
  2. Please do sudo tar cfz /tmp/PlexLogs.tar.gz "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs"
  3. When it completes, please attach the file /tmp/PlexLogs.tar.gz here with your next reply.
