Plex Server and advertise as a Player

Server Version#: 4.47.3
Player Version#: N/A

Installed on Linux (OMV but not as an OMV plugin).
I have Advertise as a Player marked on but it’s not showing up in the control app.

The question: Is it possible at all to use Plex server as an audio player on the local linux machine but to control it from the control mobile app? It’s headless.

Thanks!

This preference applies to the Plex web app, which was used to configure the server.

No, this is not possible. The server is just that. It is not a client. You’d have to have a client which is able to run on OMV.
I haven’t heard of such an animal, but I’m certainly no expert on Linux – even less on OMV.

Clear! Thanks.

The closest to what you desire is the old Plexamp 2.0 client for Raspberry Pi. Plexamp for Raspberry Pi Release Notes
But it won’t run on your hardware because it has been compiled for the ARM architecture.

If you have an Android device, you can use the regular Plex app on it. The Android TV version of Plex has recently learned to do sweet fades and loudness leveling. So you can use it as a “receiver” app for flinging music to it.

I have tried the raspberry pi story but Plexamp fully occupy the audio interface even when nothing played. Plexamp not closing the output device when in idle and there is no command option to do it with the service execution or with the config.

I am not ready to switch fully to Plex/Plexamp from audio perspective because of missing a lot of mandatory funcionalitiesI But i wanted to add Plex/Plexamp as an another audio “protocol” to my home audio infrastucture together with RAAT, Squeezlite, Spotifyd, Shairport-sync, Gmediarender and Gotubecast/Youtube-dl so to “monitor” the development becouse it’s looks promissing to me

It will be really cool and i thing it is good for your business as well (ROON is a good example here) to have native and OTA updated linux audio renderer available for armv7/8 and embeded devices. But to close the autput in idle mode and to have an audio output configuration option  This will also give opportunity to audio equipment manufacturers to make Plexamp ready/compatible devices. This will increase your service penetration for sure.
