Plex Server and capture cards to stream cable through the house

Hi everyone, I’ve been using Plex Server for many years, but only for streaming video files from my PC to the living room and bedroom TVs.

I have Sky TV the one that streams via fiber connection and not satellite so I was thinking “since I can put the Sky thingy wherever I want why not using a multi-port HDMI to Ethernet transmitter and send 4 Cat6 cables through the house with each own receiver so I can watch TV without moving the decoder every time”

Then a friend told me he had a spare Elgato HD60S, so I started wondering if I can capture what comes out from the decoder and use Plex Server to send the live feed to the clients, saving a couple of hundreds of euros and lots of work for the cables

I searched the internet a lot but I haven’t found any useful information about this subject can you tell me if it can be done?

No, Plex does not support streaming live videos like that.

There is an app that you can use to create your own tv channels which can then be added to a dvr lineup but i dont think it actually allows live feeds, just creating a timeline of existing content. The only way you could do what you are trying to do would be to find a piece of third party software that can create a live stream which could be mapped into something like xteve which can then be seen by plex dvr.
If you have a legal source of IPTV for Sky channels then you can use xteve or tellytv with Plex DVR too
