Player Version#: No Idea
I have an Imac running Mojave and just downloaded the new Plex server which says it works with 10.13+ (mojave being 10.4) but it won’t run. it opens and I get the greater than ‘>’ icon in the top status Bar but it then vanishes. I guess it’s closing down again. it worked up until this update
I tried looking up this problem but every thread I found the links do not work any longer
any ideas how to get the server running again (or how to get to back to the older one and I’ll not update it ever again)
Thanks
If the Plex Media Server won’t start and doesn’t even get to the stage where it’ll be writing to the server logs, you can attempt the following procedure to see if there’s any error messages on the OS level:
Open Finder and navigate to /Applications
Select Show Content from the context menu of the Plex Media Server.app item
Navigate to Contents/MacOS
Open the Terminal app
Drag the Plex Media Server executable from the Finder window (#3) into the Terminal Window and press Return to execute it
This is no different from running the app, so it won’t succeed – but you should get a more specific error message about what’s causing it to fail starting.
Seems it was something in the database. I moved com.plexapp.plugins.library.db from the databases folder to the desktop and started plex server, it recreated it and opened, all my folders etc. were not found of course but it opened and stayed open.
I was going to try the vacuum and rebuilding commands but instead I found a backup file from 8th Feb 2024 and it was working then so I copied and pasted that into the current install and renamed it. and so far it looks like it’s worked. at least it finds my library.
so it seem something installing the new version corrupted the database and that was why it would not stay open. fingers crossed it’s now fixed - thanks
