A few months ago I noticed that my plex server would crash repeatedly whenever I added certain new content. This occurred the first time I added 4K HDR content after updating to 1.30. I reverted back to the last version of 1.29.2.6364 and the issue went away.
I have upgraded to multiple new versions since, and keep running into the same issue with the server crashing any time it tries to analyze the new content and create playback thumbnails.
The only common denominator I have found is 4K HDR. It will stream and transcode these files flawlessly, but will not allow me to analyze them and generate video preview thumbnails. It analyzes and generates thumbnails for anything less than 4K HDR perfectly. The issue is easily repeatable by simply having the server analyze any of the 4K HDR shows or movies that have not already been analyzed. It begins the analysis, starts generating thumbnails, and then the whole thing locks up and reboots the computer. The computer crashes so hard it doesn’t even have the chance to save a blue screen log. When I revert back to version 1.29.2.6346, I can then fully analyze all content, including 4K HDR files, and the thumbnails work normally. This is happening on the latest version of the windows server, and is still fixable by reverting to version 1.29.2.6364, and immediately returns as soon as you update to ANY version newer than that.
I have searched extensively in many places, and can’t quite seem to find this exact issue being reported by anyone else. I’m really hoping it is some silly, simple issue I have overlooked and the fact that version 1.29 didn’t have the issue is just some sort of coincidence, but I’m lost at this point.
I have attached my server logs here, but did not realize I had verbose enabled. I disabled verbose logging, tried the analysis and triggered the problem a few times, and then redownloaded the logs I have attached here.
Edit: Issue persists even after latest update to 1.31.1.6716. Optimized database, Cleaned bundles, restarted server, selected analyze. The whole server locked up hard and restarted about 1% of the way into Preview Thumbnail Generation as it has been doing. Issues still only occurs with 4K HDR content, and not with any 1080P content.
