Since I updated the server I’ve found it crashes while I’m watching content, or not watching content. I can be watching something locally, or via remote connection, and the content just stops. When I check the server, it’s just stopped. No Apple crash report gets generated; the app just shuts down. I restart the Plex server, and it runs again just fine. Until it doesn’t. Any ideas on what I need to do? I’m running on a Mac Studio M2 Ultra.
Hah - my Plex Media Server also stopped crashing (started working consistently) about a week ago. I was in the process of writing a script to check the PMS status and restart it if off.
But it fixed itself and is up and running consistently (like it was and has been for years).
I didn’t see any updates of Plex or the MacOS so it was also for no apparent reason as well.
Maybe something else was updated or changed?? Don’t know at this point.
Thanks
Plex server started crashing again, after 2-3 weeks of working just fine. Now it’s crashed twice in the last 12 hours. No crash report. Just stops. Todd…you having the same problem again?
Another crash sometime in the last 24 hours. No note in the log at the time of the crash. I’ve enabled debug logging, as default logging didn’t offer any help on the cause of this behavior.
I’m having the same issue. No crash report. Just stops. Newest version of the server. Macos Ventura.
However, mine only crashes when a specific older LG client finishes an episode of a TV show and tries to play the next episode. This client is also using an insecure connection because it’s LetsEncrypt certificate is expired
Doesn’t happen when any other client does the same.
For now I’ve set “Secure connection’s” to required so the LG client can’t connect anymore. No crashes since then.
That means you at some point changed the logging level. Debug is the default.
As for thoughts, without debug logs covering the event (taken 3-5 minutes after rebooting the application) Not a whole lot can be guessed. I can think of 4-5 different things that would cause it.
I guess add me to the list as well. My plexmediaserver.service has been crashing the last couple of days and I’m also on *.7349. I leave debug logging on all the time and it did produce a crash dump but the service crashed at 11:53AM this morning and the last entry in the crash dump is 11:52AM. So I’m not sure. Not trying to hijack thread but thought I’d throw my crash dump file up here. 01f1021d-e6e6-40fc-668cb5a3-ac9839f6.dmp.log (4.8 MB)
And also may be inconsequential but crash seems to happen right around the same time as:
Codecs: hardware transcoding: testing API nvdec for device ‘pci:0000:00:10.0’ (GP106GL [Quadro P2000])
I too am experiencing more crashes with this update - 1.32.5.7349.
Mac OS Monterey 12.6.8 - Mac mini (Late 2014)
Logs are not showing reasons that I could easily spot, even after I raise the level to Debug.
I’ve had to install remote management software to manually restart my Plex as I don’t have the scripting skills to restart it after it stops working or the app shuts down.
I just got a new M2 Mini and an planning to migrate it to the new machine soon but this crashing every other day for no particular reason at no particular time is baffling and I’d rather wait until the version is stablized.
Hello, same problem here. I’m running PMS on an Asustor NAS with ADM 3.5.9.RWM1.
Actually it started with the previous version. I don’t know how to check which was the previous version I had installed, but it was under 1.32.4 or 1.32.5 group, not earlier.
I can see that some crash reports are being sent through the CrashUploader service. In my Crash Reports folder I found a couple of files and they both finish with
ERROR - [Notify] Error while reading inotify fd (4)
Same here - Mac 10.15.7 used to work flawlessly for a long while - 6-9 months and just in the last 3 or so days, can only connect on the 127.0.0.1:xxx. No longer on the 192.168x range.
In the console, I can see a connection occurring but then it’s dropped almost immediately.
Firewall is off/Router has been rebooted as the computer. The computer is wired to the router.
I have uninstalled/removed plex from the mac. Removed the PLIST and cache - reinstalled several times, I am at a loss.:
I’m not sure it’s crashing, but things I watched with no problem yesterday are giving me the spinning circle of doom today. I have rebooted my Plex server, my NAS, my router, and my clients (fails on a Shield and on a Roku). How would I diagnose this?
Update: This problem persists even if the media file is on the same machine as the Plex server, so that removes one potential failure vector.
