As the title states, Music Artist folders are disappearing off the server and I don’t know why. I noticed this after the new year. Originally, it was just a couple folders. I have over 250 distinct artist folders and didn’t think the problem was widespread. I simply added the music files back onto the Plex Server and moved forward. I’m now finding additional artists/albums that are gone. Has anyone else experienced this or is there a way to force the Windows server to not allow deletes from the Plex Media folders?
Plex doesn’t delete files from your media folders. There’s a few exceptions, you can e.g. configure the server to allow yourself to manually trigger deleting files from the user interface (drugs is disabled by default and requires your action). With tv / DVR based content you can configure Plex to restrict how many episodes you want to keep and for how long.
It might be worth to further investigate what app is actually deleting your media to avoid surprises if you apply read-only access to the media directories for the user/account running your Plex Media Server while the culprit might still have permission to delete your files.
You may also have a failing hard drive so check that also.
