I have 1 dedicated library in Plex that I want to use for ALL DVR recordings. I set the library type up as library type “TV Shows”. If what I am trying to record is not classified as a “TV Show” (ie. a movie) then my DVR Recordings library is not even presented as an option for a recording location. I have several other libraries that are specifically read only where Plex tries to direct me to store my OTA movie recordings. I want to store ALL DVR recordings in the same library regardless of what type of show was recorded.
Movies cannot go in tv libraries and tv shows cannot go in movie libraries. because tv libraries to work properly need the season and episode information which movies do not have. Neither type of library can get metadata for another type.
Thanks for the quick reply. So how do the other DVR services (Fire recast, Dish, etc.) have on single location where everything “magically” records and shows correctly? Perhaps a single folder for DVR recordings with 2 virtual libraries within it? One for TV shows and one for movies, etc. where the DVR automatically stores appropriately without having to be given a specific location. I have enough stuff on my server menu as it is without having to create multiple recording locations. I also would like a way to tell Plex that certain libraries should NEVER be offered as recording locations.
Those apps only do DVR as far as I know. Plex is not just DVR software. It was initially developed for those who rip their movies and shows from DVDs. much like folks ripped their music CDs to iTunes, etc. The DVR feature was only an added feature many years later and has to work with the existing infrastructure which is not DVR centric. Most of our users don’t use DVR at all.
