Can I move my default DVR location to a "DVR" folder?

Server Version#: 4.91.2
Player Version#: 9.8.2.35221
Tuner Make/Model: WinTV-dualHD
Guide/Lineup name: Local Broadcast Listings (141 channels) - Live TV
Using XMLTV?: I don’t believe so?
Channel number/Name: All

Sorry if this has been covered, but my local tv DVR recordings are going into my “TV Shows” folder currently. I don’t want them there, I would like to make a “DVR” folder to separate my owned TV Shows (series) from the recordings that I make through my tuner. Can I do this?

Sure.
Create the folder. Make sure that Plex server has “write” permission to it.
Edit your TV show library and add the new folder (each Plex library can point to several folders/drives concurrently)
When scheduling a recording, you can not only set the library where the recording is being stored, but also which folder shall be used.
You might want to edit all your existing recording jobs to verify or change that particular setting.

The other option would be to create a completely separate library for DVR recordings. Keep in mind that there are “movie”-type recordings as well as “tv show”-type recordings. (which is which is determined by the classification of the programme in the EPG)
So you’ll need a library of each type.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I am going to try both when I get back home and see which one is the best fit. Another question is how does Plex know currently to save these DVR files into my TV Shows folder? I don’t see a place to put that anywhere in settings.

Edit the “recording jobs” under Live TV - DVR Schedule

So if I were setting up a Library for DVR, I would have to create two libraries? One where I select TV Shows for the “show” files and one where I select movies for the “movie” files? Then I would have to select each recording and select shows or movies based on what I am trying to watch?

I tried to set up the DVR folder within TV Shows but when I try to select the location after I set a future recording, it only has the TV Shows folder, no subfolder ( the DVR folder). Did I do something wrong or miss a step? (update, I figured this second part out)

It is the same as with regular videos. It can be either a movie or it can be a tv show episode. Each one goes into its own type of library.

When you start out, put a file (a small .txt will do) into the new folder, so that it is not completely empty. Then scan the library.

Thank you very much…I greatly appreciate your help. I think I have it figured out now. Side note…is there a way to name the files differently? For example, I was testing this out by recording the Cal vs ND football game. Could the file automatically be named Cal vs ND instead of just College Football?

To maybe answer my own question, I am guessing it names the file whatever the EPG has it named. If I were to keep the file, say a football game, I could just go into my media server and name it Cal vs ND. It would be cool if the Plex EPG already had that name.

Also, what is the xmltv guide and how can I use it? Would they have more specific names on say sports games?

It can only have the data which are available to Gracenote (the ones who make the EPG).

XMLTV is just an exchange format for EPG data.
There are some services which can deliver XMLTV data. But almost none of them do it for free. And it is uncertain that their data are of higher quality than Gracenote’s.
