Cannot see all my Library locations when trying to create a new DVR recording - I have a Library called DVR TV but this isn't showing in the dropdown list when creating a new DVR recording

I used to use a HDHomerun for OTA broadcasts and this has been woking fine for years but i recently upgraded to an IPTV provider and now I cannot select the DVR TV Library as a destination for recordings.
I have tried removing and re-adding the DVR from PMS and i have also tried creating a new Library but they just dont show in the dropdown list when creating a new recording.
I have even tried restoring the Plex DB to an earlier date in case it got corrupt but i still get the same issue.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Wes

Depending on the EPG you are using, you may have to have 2 different DVR libraries. One of the type ‘movies’ and one of the type ‘tv shows’.

I assume, that previously your airings were tagged as ‘tv shows’ in the EPG, so that you could select the storage location in your DVR ‘tv shows’ library.
But now, the airings may be tagged as ‘movies’, so that your DVR ‘movies’ library is in need of an added storage location where Plex server has ‘writing’ permissions.

(or the other way around)

Hi Otto, Thanks for the reply. Im not sure I understand your answer, I do indeed have two locations DVR TV and DVR Films but for example I am trying to record Gadget Show on Channel5 and when i click the dropdown locations I can see some Libraries but not the DVR ones that i want to use. I have looked under the DVR TV Library and cannot find anything regarding TV Shows as you mentions although the Library itself is created as a TV Programs Library Type so it can pull the relevant info about the program and that used to work till i went to IPTV, but for the IPTV channel sorting and numbering i use a program called xTeVe which allows me to sort the channels in order and this is also where i point the Plex EPG at to collect the EPG data.
Does this explain more?
Thanks

I think you might be onto something as when i look at the list of libraries available to chose they are all “Films” libraries but none of the “TV Programs” libraries are showing, the problem is i don’t know where to add this setting into Plex or xTeVe to change this?

You need to either:

  • add a path for the recordings to any of your existing ‘Movie’-type libraries
( Edit your library, go to the ‘Add Folders’, tab )
  • create a new library of the type ‘Movies’ and point it to the appropriate folder where you want the recordings to land

Whichever you do, don’t select the same folder like you used before, when your tv airings where tagged as ‘tv shows’.

I have figured it out thanks, i had to assign the groups to each category in xTeVe i.e. “Series” “Films” etc then Plex figured out which folder they could go into.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Can you provide a bit more detail on how you did this for xTeVe? I’m experiencing the exact same issue, and I’d like to resolve it.
Are you saying that you created a “group” for the entire channel line-up?
e.g. ABC, CBS, and NBC would all be put into a “Series” group?
Whereas, HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax would all be in a “Films” group?
But, what happens when ABC/CBS/NBC air a movie?
Or, what happens when one of the movie channels airs a “series” like “Game of Thrones?”

It seems like this should indeed be handled at the EPG-level, instead? (e.g. each/every EPG item should somehow be flagged as either “series” or “film?”) <-- And I don’t honestly know how to do THAT!!!

Similarly (and I assume it’s related,) is that my posters for the LIVE TV guide and upcoming LIVE TV shows aren’t reflecting the REAL posters (in most cases.) Again, I assume that this is related to Plex not realizing that it’s a “series” instead of a “film.” e.g. it’s assuming it’s a “film,” but not finding a respective film name via the film databases. I assume once I/we figure out how to tell it that the item is a “series,” that it will then CORRECTLY search the TV databases and find/display the proper metadata.

Lastly,. (currently,) it doesn’t seem to search the guide/metadata for details. e.g. it seems to ONLY search “titles?” If I search for a TITLE, it will indeed search all of my libraries, AS WELL AS the upcoming LIVE TV schedule/airings. But, if I search for something “deeper” (like actor, or buzzwords within the description of a LIVE-TV show, it doesn’t return any results.)
I don;t think this will be resolved if/when I fix the library issues above. (I think this is a SEPARATE issue.)
