Plex Server - Mac OSx

Question -
I am running a Plex Server on Mac OS High Sierra - I have a TV antenna currently installed and am thinking of trying the DVR/Live TV function through PLEX.

If I did this, will any of the supported tuners work or do I need one specifically that has Drivers for Mac OSx i.e. HD Romerun? I am not understanding why I would need drivers on my MAC for the tuner, if it’s being plugged into the TV antenna? Am I needing the Mac OSx driver, because it’s sending it over the network back to the Mac Computer?

I want to run the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-955Q and figured that the Antenna would plug into the Tuner, the tuner would plug in via USB and Plex would automatically DETECT the Tuner via my Mac web browser, when logged into Plex account.

What am I missing? Is the HD Homerun all I can do, since it’s the only one that supports Mac OS?

Basically, yes. The Plex server on your macOS system needs to be able to “talk” to the tuner (e.g. change to a channel, start/stop a recording, record to a a file on your Mac) so it needs a tuner and its accompanying driver in order to perform those DVR function.

Seems like it, if no other tuners have drivers that work on your version of macOS.

That’s what I needed to hear. I knew I probably had the answer, but I wanted to make sure. What was throwing me off was the Hauppauge was USB, so I figured it would plug into my TV, and PLEX would auto detect it.
