Running Version 1.32.2.7100, I will periodically wake up and find the Plex Server app is closed, or crashed on my MAC. I can’t really see any reason for it, as I’m able to start it back up and it will then continue to work for another random period of time until it occurs again.
Any thoughts? This has only just begun to start happening in the last week, maybe only since updating to this version.
I’ve also been having this same issue since upgrading to 1.32.2.7100. Random segmentation faults with the transcoder. Sometimes it’ll crash five minutes after restarting, sometimes it will go a few days before crashing.
I’m running it on a 2022 Mac Studio (Ventura 13.4, M1 Max, 32GB RAM). Looks like my first crash was on 5/26, and it has crashed 11 times since then.
I tried reinstalling the Plex Server. I haven’t tried clearing anything out of the Application Support folder yet, because I don’t really know what I’m doing in there and don’t want to lose anything valuable.
If anyone else (aside from me and OP) is having this issue, would love to hear if you’ve found anything that might be causing it.
I downgraded to earlier versiona and the issue has gone away. not sure how to alert the plex dev team to the issue. but defo a bug with the latest couple versions.
Happened with me as well - just re-installed 1.31.1.6733 and we’ll see if it holds.
edit: I forgot to turn off the auto-update during weekly scheduled maintenance and it it updated to the new version again after a week. Shutdowns resumed apace, LOL. Reverted back to an earlier version than 6733 and turned OFF the auto-updates (the Android App I watch from also prompted me to update the server, at least it allowed me the opportunity to skip it) and so far holding solid.
Yep, came here to say the same and see if others were having the same problem. I’m on an Intel mini, but like others here, it looks like a segfault in the Plex Transcoder process. Oddly, I have a launchctl watchdog to keep an eye on Plex Media Server, but these crashes aren’t being seen as a “crash” by launchctl, so my server isn’t being kickstarted the way it should be.

You appear to have debug logging disabled - please enable Plex Media Server debug logging in General Server Settings / Show Advanced. and restart the server
And on next crash - please provide the server logs zip file and also zip of the plex related ips files found in ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/
Then shutdown and restart Plex Media Server for this to take effect
and then on next crash - please get the server logs zip on the restart following the crash plus a zip of the diagnostic files around the time of the crash - from folder ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/
I am having the exact same issue repeatedly on m2 Mac mini.
While I am at work I will get messages that my Plex server is not working. Come home and sure enough, the Plex app is not open. I am not tech savvy with all of these logs, but this is a major issue.
So I was having PMS crash randomly while watching or when I would connect to watch the server would just be gone. Also no error message and not much to go on. After trying several things I resorted to deleting the PMS preferences file and restarted the server. Since doing that it has not run rock solid for a week with no crashing or user disconnects.
First quit PMS then the file you want to trash is ~/Library/YOURUSERNAME/Preferences/com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist
This will not effect your library’s or content.
Hope it can help someone.
