I would be grateful for your recommendations for a mini-pc to act as a dedicated Plex server. Up until now I have been using my Macbook Pro (Early 2011 Core i7 2.0Ghz) and have had no problems, but the Macbook Pro has officially died so I need to replace it.
Ideally I would have liked to replace it with a mac mini but the 2014 mini’s are not powerful enough in my view for my needs, and I am not willing to pay top dollar for a refurbished/used 2012 quad core mini, given their age. I am therefore looking to purchase a windows mini-pc.
I would like the server to enable me to simultaneously stream 2720p streams remotely and 3720p streams locally. In reality I would likely not have all five streams going at the same time, but it is a possibility, so I would like to cater for it.Locally plex would be streamed to Apple TVs and Ipads. Remotely plex would be streamed to Roku boxes.
I have come across the Intel Skull Canyons (https://simplynuc.co.uk/nuc-products/) which would appear to meet my needs, but it has been so long since I purchased a non-Mac PC (my house is mostly Apple products) that I am not that familiar with the products out there that would compete with a mac mini.
Any ideas / commendations? Thanks very much in advance.
