Plex server not using enough bandwidth when direct playing some files

Server Version#: 1.16.1.1273
Player Version#: Unknown

While trying to play a file at original quality the stream will buffer every 3-5 seconds while direct playing, but if i ask for the file to be transcoded to maximum quality it will play smoothly. This is for a 6 mbps file, meanwhile i can directplay 4k files with bitrates of 60+ mbps with no problem.

please tell me what logs will be needed and i will be happy to provide them.

I’ve sometimes found similar, that a file will buffer if I set it to transcode to the same or higher bitrate. My guess is that PMS is not able to packetise and send the data to the client fast enough sometimes, and transcoding introduces a server-side buffer that can smooth the process.

DEBUG (not VEROSE) Log files please?

  1. Recreate the issue (with debug logging)
  2. Stop Playback after first failure.
  3. Wait 30 seconds for logs to flush
  4. Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs.

If the CPU is waiting on the networking or the player, it will show sloth mode because the Transcoder output buffer is full.

I did download the logs the day after the problem happened, so i have attached them to this post.

The problem occurs around 21:38 and 21:43 where the user Patrickleth tries to play a video.
