Plex Server Nvidia Shield question

Hi, I have given up on proprietory DVR with large storage - only to be told they want to send me a new box but I cannot transfer my content.

I have done some researach regarding a new Plex DVR (not traditional desktop PCs) - with my needs as follows:-

  • Multiple tuners
  • Low power usage (not like a desktop)
  • Plex Server installed
  • Access to recorded TV/film files
  • Live TV recording
  • DVR
  • Storage flexibility - network and local
  • Access existing content on my current PC Plex Server

…and this little dude has jumped out at me :-

I have been reading about Rasberry Pi, but I am attracted to the ‘out of the box’ solution. Mini PCs are also another option, but if the NVIDIA is the lower power option -I would lean in this direction.

My queston is - Would you recomment this given my list of needs? Or are there other options?

I also already have a pass.

Thanks

Lee

Yeah you can use the shield pro with an external storage device. Tuners are separate devices you will need to purchase. Most have multiple tuners built in. I have a infinitv ceton 4 tuner cable card in my server with a proxy server that makes it look like a HD Homerun Tuner. HD Homerun popular OTA tuners with several options for how many tuners they have. There cable card version is hard to find and their new one is not out yet.

Alucard1,

Oh blimey, I completely missed that fact it does not have a tuner… hmmm

If I wanted to have just one box - I would need to buy a mini PC?

I’ll also have a look at the HD Homerun.

Thanks

Lee

Thanks for your comments. I have found a USB tuner that supports Plex Server, so to keep to one box, I think I like this combination :-
