@ChuckPa as you can see, the folders are mounted. Could it be a permission issue? How can I do?
1 .Unmount the Synology volumes (sudo umount -avt nfs4 ; sudo umount -avt nfs)
2 . force perms on the mount point directories (sudo chmod 755 /mount/nas)
3. Now mount again
(the host must grant basic permission to the mount point directories. You must then, as root, look at what permissions the Synology exports. Will likely be 700/600)
Thanks @ChuckPa but I’m not skilled enough to follow this steps
There’s a time when you should just give up
(this F…ing DSM7 broke my PMS Photo folder connection on the NAS and destroyed my second PMS, the Linux Nuc).
So be it.
Hi again @ChuckPa, after a nice bike tour, I decided that I have to solve the problem…
As you did a couple years ago, can you please help me with a step-by-step guide, in order to regain access to my Nas, from my PMS running on a Linux NUC?
Thank you, grazie mille!
Thanks @ChuckPa , but…

my folders are already mounted, or am I missing something?
After the DSM7 upgrade my NUC can’t access the folders anymore. But they seem mounted.
@ChuckPa a quick update. I changed the NFS perms inside the MOVIE folder, using “maps all the users as admin” inside the SQUASH field and… suddenly my PMS on the Linux NUC find the media. Is it a secure choice? Or is it a very risky one?
Hi, may I reopen this thread? I’d like to ask again for a little help ![]()
Is @ChuckPa willing to help me again? My Nuc doesn’t see the files inside two folders (the ones with the “wrong” names…) Inside the Computer folder I have “mount” and inside “mount” I have this structure:
Nas Folder:
Film Folder
Serie TV Folder
Video_GoPro Folder
Film is full of my files, stored inside my Nas
Serie Tv and Video GoPro are empty. It started yesterday.
This is what I get:

MODERATOR EDIT: Added formatting for legibility
On the syno, do you have a username for plex ?
If not, have you considered adding sec=sys mount option?
I had the user Plex, but now it’s disabled (probably since DSM7, if I recall correctly).
And everything has been working smoothly, since then. Suddenly, probably this week, something went wrong (the last file added on Plex/NUC is 2022-09-16).
What is sec=sys?
The NUC Register says: failed to mount /mount/nas/Serie_TV
and failed to mount /mount/nas/Video_GoPro
man 5 nfs
sec=flavors A colon-separated list of one or more security flavors to use for accessing files on the mounted ex‐
port. If the server does not support any of these flavors, the mount operation fails. If sec= is not
specified, the client attempts to find a security flavor that both the client and the server supports.
Valid flavors are none, sys, krb5, krb5i, and krb5p. Refer to the SECURITY CONSIDERATIONS section for
details.
sec=sys tells NFS that each host will hand the security.
When I use this, I set “Read” = “everybody”
Check the NFS rule and make certain you’re not getting ‘squashed’ by the new DSM 7 security
/volume1/Video\040GoPro
Don’t forget to escape the octal
Spaces in shared folder names isn’t cool for this reason
When the mounts and permissions on the nas (this is the syno), it works out.
A decision you might need to make with DSM 7 is whether to break the ACL on the top of the shared folder but retain it for all contents.
I break it (put linux 755 permissions on /volume1/movies) but let everything else have ACLs.

Unfortunately, for me is too difficult to understand. Everything worked perfectly and now… two folders are empty, on the NUC.
Now, I’ve edited the fstab… I escaped the octal, and it seems to work!!! Why this f…ing \ became / is a mistery.
/etc/fstab doesn’t like quotes and spaces are field delimiters
If you want to embed a space in the target name, you have to octal escape it
(Yes, we’re going all the way back to the early unix days where this came from)
IF you can migrate yourself away from “Names With Spaces”
to NamesWithoutSpaces (camelHump names), you’ll be better off and they’re still quite readable. (I write all my code with MixedCase variable names)
My rule of thumb - No configuration changes after the first

Hi everyone, and @ChuckPa especially ![]()
Today, suddenly, my Plex Server on my NUC (Ubuntu) failed to start. No more Plex Server. How can I do to try to solve the issue? Thanks!
Make a tar.gz of the “Logs” directory under “Plex Media Server”.
Attach it here.
