Plex Server Randomly Unavailable

Good Evening Everyone!

I was wondering if someone may be able to give me an idea of what is going on. The last two nights while watching some TV Shows on Plex, after about 20 minutes during Playback on Roku while I am at home I’ll get a buffering icon and the server will be inaccessible. Eventually it will tell me the server is not available. If I open the Plex app on iOS it will also be unavailable. If I then go to my iMac and wake it from sleep it will suddenly work again, but so far this has repeated for 2 nights in a row.

I’ve tried signing out of Plex and then signing back in, removing any channels, no dice yet. I’m not the best with the logs but If anyone could take a peek and point me in the right direction that would be great. I haven’t had an issue in probably 5 years, so this randomly just started to creep up!

Time and date of problems please

I have logs for following periods

From Apr 15, 2018 10:45:59 up to Apr 15, 2018 23:17:26 when you shut down the server
From Apr 15, 2018 23:17:57 up to Apr 16, 2018 21:28:23 when you shut down the server
From Apr 16, 2018 21:28:26 up to Apr 17, 2018 20:33:15 when you downloaded the logs

Ah sorry about that! Lets go with this evening the 17th, around 8:16pm is when I had my disconnect, I had to come back up and wake up the iMac to get it to resume playing. It looks like in the logs from then to around 8:19 alot was going on network wise

Had a similar issue with the same file/episode this morning, at about 8:00am. It played for a hair under 22 minutes and then the whole server was unavailable. This time it was played on an iOS device. Around 3pm I was able to play a movie for about 25 minutes. I tried that same movie again around 5:15 on the roku and the server was unavailable until I woke the imac from sleep.

I have successfully played the first TV show which gave me problems on my iPhone while at home. Previously I would get about 21 minutes in and it would let me know the server was unavailable. I disconnected my plex account and reclaimed the server.

Currently I am streaming another show on the phone to see if it stops. I plan to use it tonight to watch a few more shows so we’ll see how it goes. I’ll keep this thread updated for anyone else with the same issue.

You should not allow the Mac to go to sleep or hibernate.

There is evidence of it going to sleep between 07:54 and 09:41

Ensure Mac and network card do not sleep and no power saving options enabled on the network card
